The bad WaPo podcast doesn't exist to get viewers or listeners. It clearly is a scheme to make people like me mad, to prove to Bezos that they're asking the right questions/provoking debate, and as such, it will be a success even if not a single soul checks it out. I refuse to be used in such a way!

Trans woman, mom, and game designer in Southern California.
I'm getting better at thinking I look alright on normal weekday mornings.
It can be really hard to look like the person on the left and imagine folks will ever treat you like a woman and see you as a woman. But the thing is- they *will* if you change your presentation to tell them to. Not everyone, but closer than seems possible. Sooner and easier than you think!
Started just before turning 38, now just about to turn 40. HRT is a miracle (ok, also shaving off ludicrous facial hair). It's worth it at any age. You can *like* yourself!

If you have transitioned later in life, please know how deeply you are needed here. Your story is the exact proof someone else needs to finally take their first step.
"Things were better 40 years years ago." No, they weren't. Things are shit now, sure. But they used to be so much worse.
We were reading a book with a kitten angsting about not having a father, and I asked the 6-year-old if she had any advice about fatherlessness. "Eh, just go with it."
I'm definitely guilty of this- my excuse being that having a kid born in January 2020 (and an already WFH job) meant the COVID experience was time-breakingly isolating even without a true lockdown. Lockdown was a psychological state, not a material reality
people refer to the pandemic and say stuff like "when we were in lockdown" and i don't think they know what that word means.
We took the kid and her bestie to a cat-themed escape room and revolving sushi tonight. And now I'm waiting by her bed until she falls asleep, to complete her perfect evening. Not gonna lie, really into this whole 'being a good mom' thing.
Just finished Little Women- the second half was a slog, the romances are awkward, and the 'advice to married women' stuff makes the skin crawl. But then that ending, as Lou imagines Jo building and living in a wonderland for *boys*, and his prose just comes back to life. God I love trans books!
Checking with the trans collective for estrogen knowledge...my (shitty) endocrinologist was telling me to diet in theory because estradiol raises triglycerides. My cursory research suggests that's oral estradiol only, and injections lower levels? Mostly building ammo that he sucks :)
Ugh. Just met with the endocrinologist, after 6 months wait. He was very unconcerned with my incredibly low Estrogen levels. But he sure was interested in telling me to diet because I'm fat. I ended up not even bothering to ask about Prog, as that would give him another chance to be a jackass.
Sometimes I randomly remember that there's a great family movie that climaxes with Oliver Cromwell killing himself because he cannot face being a werewolf. And that just makes me so happy. I like liking stuff.
Why did you transition? Right answers only. Because after decades of denial, I had absolutely no interest in living in a closet.
Why did you transition? Right answers only. The chance of happiness seemed worth the cost.
Cis? Look, I have complicated feelings and dark thoughts and blah blah boring brainworm-y bullshit.... Het? HET?!?!?!? Girl, even my worst brainworms are gay as fuck.
"Would you push a button that makes you cishet" No, and in fact, I'd press the trans button again.
My prize on this front is my 2004 college essay, which is ludicrously gender. It's about singing tenor when you can't actually hit the high notes. Girl was so ready...then shut down for twenty years.
found a notebook detailing my Virginia/Pennsylvania trip in 2011 and annoyed that there's no secret gender revelations in it
Feeling pretty good about me, about to watch focus groups that will suck my soul.
Imagine an entire cheery article on self expression ending in this paragraph on children. “Girlguiding’s new look is being launched shortly before a change in the charity’s membership policy from 6 September, which will force transgender girls to leave.”
Schools should learn from Guides. Being forced to wear clothes you don’t choose is bad for children’s confidence www.theguardian.com/society/2026...
Do I think she's right in an 'objective' sense? Lol no. Do I love critical bile coming from a place of deep knowledge and obsessive love? OH HELL YES!
Omg. Omg omg omg. Emily Wilson (as in, the famed translator of Homer) just published her take on Nolan's Odyssey in @lrb.co.uk... and it is SWEET, JUICY HATERADE: www.lrb.co.uk/the-paper/v4...
I went into the Hadestown filmed version largely blind, and was so moved by Allie Daniels- a trans woman- as one of the Fates trio. She sounded like me (but much, much, much better)- not like an androgenous tenor-alto-ish hybrid, like ME. While unambiguously playing a woman. All the feels.
I went through this with my mom (she never tried it, of course). The cult of the natural oppresses all women. Embrace not feeling like garbage ladies!
Cis women be like: The menopause is so horrible! (It is, yes). Whatever shall I dooooo? Trans women: HRT? Cis women: Is there no end to my unavoidable lamentations? Trans women: I’ve got loads. You want some? Cis women: I’ve tried nothing and I’m all out of ideas. Trans women: Hello? Oestrogen?
Showing the kid Jumanji. 1. Kirsten Dunst criticizing the game design for excessive randomness is pure joy. 2. I want Bebe Neuwirth's 90s mom clothes.
So a theater program the kid is starting matches new families with older ones. I'm matched with a woman I met in another context earlier in transition, and got weird vibes from. So I found her Facebook. She's full MAGA and thinks trans folks are pedophiles. Lovely. No notes universe.
As my two year egg crack anniversary draws near, there's some stuff I'm kind of embarrassed not to have figured out, like, at all. 1. Lipliner 2. Bras 3. How to form friendships 4. High Heels I should try to knock one or two of those out in the next couple of weeks.
We all start somewhere (I actually forget HOW much of a fucking werewolf I was until two years ago)
Just gonna say, as the author of the 2021 report, I stand by every single thing I wrote
center for american progress (2021): "Trans inclusive policies "which allow transgender athletes to compete in accordance with their gender identity, should be implemented nationwide." Center for american progress in (2026): "restrictions may be appropriate under some circumstances"
"decisions about trans care for minors should be made by their parents" is an anti-trans policy position, inhumane to the point of absurdity, which only sounds pro-trans to people who aren't paying attention. what those words mean is "the children of bigots should be left to suffer with no recourse"
"decisions about whether or when minors access transgender medical care should be made by parents, not politicians" actually they should be made by the minors in question, who are human beings. if you don't need parental consent to experience one kind of puberty why should you need it for the other
On the one hand, I find Blade Runner extremely boring. On the other hand, THE JACKETS! THE CAST! THE CAST IN THE JACKETS!
First look at BLADE RUNNER 2099. Hunter Schafer & Michelle Yeoh star. A brand new television series. Set 50 years after Blade Runner 2049, in a world where replicants have emerged on top after an uprising. Coming soon to Prime Video.
Harumph. My new therapist is really into "exercises" which gets kind of frustrating because I HAVEN'T EVEN GIVEN HER THE DEEP LORE YET! DELVE INTO ME, THE MOST INTERESTING GIRL IN THE WORLD! DON'T MAKE ME DOOOO STUUUUUFF!
I'm pretty clearly Mommy Princess, which is just MORTIFYINGLY basic...
T-girl Pokemon Types I’m BIRD/GOTH 🐦⬛ What are y’all???
Hey, let's be fair. You can play IF: 1. You live in a place that isn't anti-trans. 2. You want to play a sport that isn't anti-trans. 3. You are playing at a low enough level no broad ban applies (like the NCAA). 4. Your parents are OK with it (you are their property, after all). See? Reasonable.
