This article is a good informative debunking of Tyson's nonsense! historyforatheists.com/2023/03/neil...
Neil DeGrasse Tyson and Al-Ghazali
Neil DeGrasse Tyson often claims the Islamic Golden Age of science was ended in the twelfth century by Al-Ghazali. But historians disagree.

this must be quite the news for people who study Al-Ghazali, a major medieval philosopher who wrote books advocating for religious rationalism and anticipated many of the epistemological objections to Aristotelianism that would later come to be widely held among European philosophers and scientists

to state it briefly. Neil DeGrasse Tyson actively supports the old orientalist belief that Muslim countries stopped doing science and became religious fanatics, and he explains this by blaming a single (!) Islamic philosopher and theologian, Al-Gazali so, after the 11th c. Muslims basically suck

let's evaluate Neil's own standard of truth and honesty: youtu.be/WZCuF733p88
he's right though, communism is a great threat to "his" country
10 bucks to the first reporter that asks Trump to define “communism.”
How could she hate democracy like this? 😔
reading the dispute between Rosa Luxemburg and Eduard Bernstein from the current left-liberal lens, Bernstein would be the realistic reformer aiming for improvements in worker well-being, a focus on ethical behavior and achieving electoral victory and Rosa Luxemburg would be the chud tankie loser

this is correct, and I don't like socialists making any sort of appeal to the American Revolution
Worth noting that of all the post enlightenment revolutions, the American revolution was by far the most conservative and dominated by rich white slave owners, only a few of which performatively bemoaned the act of slavery to save face in the inevitable coming tide of history.
Seriously considering getting a phone I can sideload Linux onto. I'm just so sick of all this untended walled garden bullshit
George Lucas: AI skeptics are just like the Luddites (derogatory) me: AI skeptics are just like the Luddites (complimentary, affectionate, based)
The Luddites loved technology. They owned looms at home and would ‘mod’ them to count threads. Their battle was against worker exploitation. The degradation of their rights, safety and wages. They were against a handful of rich businessmen owning the means of production. Sound familiar?
George Lucas likens AI sceptics to luddites clinging to horses and carts
didn't know I could download .opus tracks with yt-dlp Opus 128kbps is pretty good quality!
This is a thing I have noticed, especially with people who read a ton of secondary literature but don't engage extensively with primary historical texts. You get a lot of "meta level" knowledge about interpretative frameworks and scholarship, but it doesn't make you conversant with the text itself.
me towards every "Marxist" academic who abandons the theory of value
The doctrine of surplus-value is the corner-stone of Marx’s economic theory.
Fun facts: one of the first things the USSR did was make fathers responsible for child support. Multiple suspected fathers? They all pay! Women could get a divorce on demand, no wait, no reason required. Built communal kitchens so women were freed from cooking obligations. Free abortion on demand
"Don't abandon your baby. Demand child support money from the father", Soviet poster, 1920s
something positive from my country, to combat the gloom

Palworld is a mediocre game, but if nothing else I'm glad it exists purely because it makes Nintendo upset
I don’t want to be too sensationalist about this but also I’m the least violent person in the world and I think if someone said this to my face I’d hit them
No longer content with pillaging intellectual work and dismembering our environment (already critically weakened), AI companies are now hellbent on destroying books galore including rare editions. Shut down these nefarious enterprises already.
can you be both anti-western and anti-eastern or is it like orcs vs. humans
"anti-Western" is maybe my favorite meaningless label that is seriously used in liberal discourse
