I rarely share personal news here but: I was laid off from my job in public sector communications based in the East Bay. I want to channel this life change into a time where I write as much as possible. So if you want to collab with me or have leads in writing opportunities, please DM me!

If anyone wonders why I push my writing and art so hard, it's because I struggled to get to where I am. I was absolutely illiterate until 7 1/2 years old. My teachers relentlessly mocked my art skills on report cards for years. Please read my latest illustrated book. I came a long way.

Seeing complaints online that authors 'gatekeep' information…! Absolute nonsense. There is no industry or craft in the world which is so comprehensively written about, studied, and discussed as fiction writing, and every author I know welcomes new writers who are serious about giving it a go.

Australia’s eSafety commissioner buried a report (released Friday afternoon) that shows the under 16 social media ban didn’t tangibly reduce teen social media use, and also resulted in parents tuning out of kids usage. We traded our privacy for no reason. theconversation.com/more-than-80...

More than 80% of kids still using social media despite ban, new eSafety report finds

The report provides more evidence Australia’s world-leading social media ban isn’t going to plan.

It’s important to understand that when 1.2 million Americans are dying from a disease, any government action is excessive and tyrannical, but if a dozen trans women want to play soccer no government action can go far enough

Just so you know, if you hire me to fact check your book, I will *never* use AI to do it. I will, however, be really hyper-detailed and not go easy on you and frankly be pretty pedantic (complimentary) and even fact check your jokes - but I won’t use AI to do ANY of that.

As a professional fact checker I would never *in a million years* use AI for research and fact checking. It lies! It makes things up! It plagiarizes! And I also have an obligation to the authors I work for not to do shoddy half-work.

What if instead of starting substacks in twenty-fucking-twenty-six people learned to give one iota of a fuck about whether they want to associate themselves with nazis.

Today university fees rise again, while thousands of academics across the country face job cuts, crushing workloads and shattered morale. Students deserve better than this broken system of unfair repayment that widens inequality. Abolish fees and fund universities properly!

Well, it’s invoicing day, and since they’re really apparently not going to pay me for something I wrote for them two months ago, I guess today is the day to post about how @vulture.com fucks over its film freelancers. Long (sorry) thread, with receipts:
