been stewing on an analytical approach to fiction which call "is this book afraid of me?" and in order to answer this question you determine how hard the book is trying to make sure you don't come after the writer on twitter

the fucked-up part is that specifically notice this in like, BIPOC or queer romances because their authors a) are more likely to be harassed online b) tend to care about writing inclusive and intersectional books more, both of which are totally valid reasons, but unfortunately a book that is scared to be misunderstood is also scared to challenge the reader or allow for too much nuance or grey areas or character flaws and am sorry to say that it often makes for less compelling stories because it means shying away from ambiguities and complexities in an effort to reassure me, the reader, that everyone here is a Good Person engaging in Healthy Behaviours and Relationships

PAGE 1:

Panel 1:

“Ugh, no way…” Bianca groans under her breath as she clutches an article of clothing. Sam takes notice.

Panel 2:

Sam rushes by Bianca’s side and asks her what’s wrong while holding onto her shoulders.

Panel 3:

“It’s one of my favourite shirts, I didn’t realize I tore it when I last shifted,” Bianca says with teary eyes as she shows Sam her torn shirt.

Panel 4:

Sam offers to take care of it for her and asks Bianca to trust her.

PAGE 2:

Panel 5: Zoom onto Sam examining the damage of the garment, she can see through the hole.

Panel 6: Shocked and surprised, Sam exclaims, “She wasn’t kidding! I-it’s nothing I can’t handle!” As she holds the shirt up and whispers “Tabarnak” under her breath.

(Translation: Tabarnak is a Quebec French cuss word, it is the equivalent of “fuckkkkk”. LOL

Panel 7: The panels bleeds onto the whole page as it is framed as a window peering into Sam’s bedroom where she works on her sewing projects. The background is peppered with articles that indicate her interest in fashion. She is seen using a sewing machine as she enthusiastically cheers herself on.

“You can do this, Samantha! You’ve dealt with worse— wait have I?”

She begins to worry and hesitate a little bit as she has never fixed anything in such disrepair.

PAGE 3:

Panel 8:
The panel is framed by Sam’s torso and it focuses on the piece of clothing she is holding behind her back as she gets Bianca’s attention who is eating icecream on her sofa.

Panel 9:
She shyly showcases her work to Bianca and asks her what she thinks.

Panel 10: Bianca excitedly leaps off and rushes towards Sam as she exclaims, “Sammy, you did it! oh my gosh!” enthusiastically.

Panel 11: Sam looks bashfully at Bianca for acknowledgement and Bianca compliments her work. “It’s even one million times cooler!” She says in awe. Sam asks, really?”

PAGE 4:

Panel 12: Sam, still shyly, looks to the side as she explains her process to Bianca and how the garment gave her some troubles. Before she could finish her speech, Bianca cuts her off.

Panel 13: Bianca gives Sam a biiiig smooch and Sam has a very surprised face.

Panel 14: Sam is holding up the reworked piece of garment as Bianca covers her in love and kisses.

Panel 15: There are minimal drawing in this panel and it is instead filled with just their speech amongst each other.

Bianca: I loveeee you Sammy, youre literally the BESTEST!!! 
Sam: I want to see you wear it!
