I lead the Developer Relations team at LocalStack. Based on Boston. AWS Community Builder.

When I was first building my event organizing site, I thought I'd build it & then integrate it with ATproto in phase 2. Why? Because I completely misunderstood what ATproto was & how it works...& I'm probably not alone. I wrote up a post sharing what I've learned. remotesynthesis.com/posts/totall...

I Totally Misunderstood ATProto

I thought I knew what AT Protocol was about. It was for Bluesky and Bluesky-like sites and maybe auth. I wasn't entirely wrong but I was also way off the mark.

in 2016 Elon Musk said he would build a fully automated factory in Fremont, California for the upcoming Model 3 and he then spent on the order of $2 billion on production lines that didn't work, forcing Tesla to assemble cars by hand in a tent but sure, now he's gonna do it on the moon

This is spot on & it's not new. I'm not a particularly young person and it's been an expectation of only the left to understand the perspective of the right ("real Americans") throughout the entirety of my lifetime. In fact, the entire "liberal media" was built around presenting this perspective.

It's always interesting how "liberal" or "leftwing" spaces (whether perceived or actual) have to "stop being a bubble", but no one asks the same of Truth Social or any of the other rightwing spaces.

It’s important to understand that when 1.2 million Americans are dying from a disease, any government action is excessive and tyrannical, but if a dozen trans women want to play soccer no government action can go far enough

AI removes a lot of the barriers of building, but can also make it too easy to skip due diligence & build the wrong thing. I learned the hard way with a recent side project that building with AI requires more research & is helped by relying on open standards: remotesynthesis.com/posts/when-y...

When You Build the Wrong Thing | Remote Synthesis

AI makes it almost too simple to release stuff, which can, as in my case, lead to not enough preparation.

Not that we didn't know this already but having ICE - whose jurisdiction has absolutely NOTHING to do with elections - investigate voter fraud gives away the game. ICE is no longer a legal entity bound by laws and norms, it's Trump's personal force, focusing on whatever he wants.

NEW: DHS plans to pay Thomson Reuters $125 million for access to its databases which includes peoples’ names, addresses, Social Security numbers, ethnicity, social media posts, and geolocation information — to help ICE investigate “voter fraud”, according to documents reviewed by 404 Media.

i wish there had been some way to know a republican president would start an unwinnable war in the middle east that did nothing more than pad the bank accounts of him and his cronies

The "American Dream" is officially dead. It may never have been as real as people believed it to be, but that belief is why people around the world strove to come here. It took 50 years but the ultra-wealthy (our new oligarchs) killed it. Trump is both a symptom and the final nail in the coffin.

“.. That is the US to me: a country where some people become trillionaires and others lose everything to disease. “.. Dickensian.” @financialtimes.com www.ft.com/content/7185...

The White House was never supposed to be a palace. George Washington and architect James Hoban deliberately rejected the lavish style of European monarchies. Instead, they designed a President’s House that reflected the ideals of a republic: dignified, restrained, and accountable to the people.

Another great chart from Lenny Rachitsky’s survey of how tech workers feel about their jobs. That the fear of AI’s impact on their jobs is more that they will be overworked following layoffs (52%) than that AI will take their jobs (22%) totally resonates given my observations.

The son of the man shot and killed by ICE: I am Ronaldo Salgado, the oldest son of Lorenzo Salgado Araujo. He should've been picking up the last of his guys before heading to finish up construction. Unbeknownst to all of us, my dad had been shot inside his van by ICE agents in unmarked cars.
