++BREAKING++ The Daily Telegraph has... *rubs eyes* ...published something sensible about climate change: "I’m coming to the view that the Online Right is going wrong, eschewing compassion or charm, talking itself into corners of angry irrelevance. Take climate change."

One of the lessons of the last two years is that Labour urgently needs to stop being afraid of its own shadow. Burnham should appoint whoever he thinks would be the best Chancellor and throw his authority behind them. The Daily Mail will try to kill them anyway. So just govern.
Hard not to regard this as a classic example of a pre-emptive campaign by certain sectors, along with their media sympathisers, to discourage a new prime minister from appointing someone who might damage their interests in the long and short term. And it will almost certainly work.
And there it is… www.desmog.com/2026/04/30/r...
Revealed: Reform’s £24 Million from Fossil Fuel Interests
Reform UK has received £24 million from oil and gas interests, accounting for more than two thirds of its total income, DeSmog can reveal. Led by Nigel Farage, the party is calling for new North Sea o...

🧵A political/media guide to the "truth" about net-zero 1) Add up costs to install & run a net-zero energy system 2) Pretend fossil-fuelled alternatives wld be free 3) Do say "eco zealots are bankrupting us" 4) Don't say "free cars if we scrap net-zero" cos it sounds ridiculous 5) That's it! 1/10

Prince Andrew can no longer be Duke of York (a ceremonial title) because of Epstein, but Donald Trump can still be President of the United States (a position of staggering real-world authority) *despite* Epstein. Quite a stark contrast we are being offered here.

I will never not understand how a minority of people have decided that wind farms - significantly prettier than pylons, coal power plants, nuclear power plants, and almost certainly fusion power plants - are ugly. In terms of energy generation, what else are you hoping for that is better?
On holiday, I notice that there are wind turbines on the shore of Lake Garda, which very much makes me think that residents with a view of some incredibly mid Cotswold or other can put a sock in it.
David Fickling: Blaming renewables for Spain's blackouts is like the ancients blaming thunder & lightning on warring gods 😂 "[this] had the virtue of a clear narrative and a ready cast of stock characters…There’s just one problem…It wasn’t true" www.bloomberg.com/op...
No, Renewables Didn’t Cause Spain’s Grid Blackout
Shifting to clean generation might occasionally trip, but the effects are short-lived, and easily fixed.

One lesson of the local elections is that it's time to take Reform seriously, not just as a political movement but as a possible party of government. So I spent a few days digging into their economic plans—and found hair-raising, Truss-adjacent stuff. www.economist.com/britain/202...
We have invested trillions ensuring we can store water, medicines, food and fossil fuels but it’s heresy to suggest we spend money ensuring we do what’s possible to store electricity.
Just replace Trump with Farage and you can see what's in store for the UK just around the corner and that will be totally down to UK msm
Wild that 28% of Tory voters don't believe humans are causing climate change. The figure is quite high for UK population as a whole, at 17%. Yet it's 4yrs since the IPCC upgraded its certainty on our role in causing climate change, calling it "unequivocal". Lotta people didn't get the message.
Data from UK Steel indicates that UK wholesale electricity prices were over double those in Spain Spain has 40% wind and solar generation (higher than the UK) and a Net Zero target identical to the UK The UK has a Gas and market problem not a Renewables or Net Zero problem.

2024 and 45% of German electricity came from Wind and Solar and no nuclear (GB 34% wind and solar) Apparently adding more Renewables increases electricity prices.
It's been obvious since January 6 that he was an enemy of the USA, the UK & the whole of the free world. Everybody still in his camp understands this as completely as everybody against it. They just prioritise personal interest over the national & international. And they know it. They all know it.

Every AI tested finds that man made climate change is real and one of the worlds biggest threats. However grok3 now includes ‘balance’ which means the usual fossil fuel lobbyists debunk it. I’d say grok3 is useless as an AI tool
grok 2 vs grok 3
Fossil Fuel Lobbyists “Gas Generation (and electricity) is expensive as wind power makes Gas Power Stations run less. Also “We should build more Gas as we transition to Nuclear Power” So we can have even more Gas running less and charging us more Make it make sense 🤔
We have all witnessed another week of manufactured hysteria by the fossil fuel lobbyists. The grid was about to collapse, Gas saving the day, Renewables are useless. So worth reflecting in the ‘horrendous week’ Fossil fuel generation was 38% Renewables generation 31%
I spoke to @blkahn.bsky.social at Bloomberg about Trump's most recent attempt to turn climate catastrophe into a culture war opportunity.
Elon Musk and Donald Trump: The hydrants ran out because California didn't pump water from the north Reality: The wildfires are so intense, water systems built for fighting a single house fire failed to keep up. Another surprising impact of climate change
It's official: 2024 was the hottest year on record, and the first with an average temp 1.5C above pre-industrial levels, the limit set by the Paris Agreement. The 1.5C goal isn't dead -- it won't be until/unless this happens over many years. But it's sure not looking good. via @eroston.bsky.social

Scientists in the EU and UK find that last year was the hottest year on record, breaching the climate change limit sought by the Paris Agreement.

So to be clear then. Gas generation is now simultaneously lowest cost base load, primary generation, the only thing keeping the lights on whilst being “back up, peaking generation” that demands obscene operating costs.

Two Gas Power Stations earning £12 million for three hours generation tonight. Gaming the system now a regular occurrence for Gas owners. They are taking us all for fools. This is what fossil fuels has always done folks.
Two power station owners to get more than £12m for three hours of electricity
My god. Part of UK media are now suggesting that limiting new North Sea licences is the reason people are struggling with their heating bills. We introduced the winter fuel allowance back in 1997 due to the cost of heating our homes with gas and kerosene
