San Leandro, thank you to the community members who came out to my town hall this week and shared your concerns. Your voices ground my work in Washington, and I am carrying your stories with me as I continue to fight attacks on our civil and human rights.

Our district has a deep history of disability activism and is the birthplace of the modern disability rights movement. I was honored to welcome Dr. Pineda from the Berkeley Center for Independent Living to Washington during Disability Pride Month.

On June 4th, President Trump announced $75 million in federal funding for a coal export terminal in West Oakland. I immediately filed an amendment to the FY 2027 Energy and Water Appropriations Bill to prohibit funding for the project, but House Republicans blocked the amendment.

This week I voted HELL NO on the Fiscal Year 2027 National Defense Authorization Act. Our national security depends on more than military strength. It depends on whether families can afford housing, access healthcare, send their children to good schools, and live with dignity and opportunity.

For the second week in a row, Republicans on the House Oversight Commitee held a hearing to demonize Black and brown communities. They want to claim that the diversity and equity policies of the American Bar Association are endangering the Constitution.

As someone who has relied on Social Security benefits, I know firsthand the importance of needing to ensure Social Security remains robust and accessible for those who depend on it. I also strongly support legislation that empowers those with disabilities with the right to work.

A year after their Big, Ugly, Cruel Bill-which made devastating cuts to Medicaid and SNAP which has already resulted in tens of thousands of Americans losing food assistance and health care, House Republicans jammed through another budget reconciliation bill.

Last night, I voted NO on the House Republican Continuing Resolution, which would extend government funding at current levels through December 4. This bill removes guardrails that prevented additional funding from being shifted to Border Patrol, giving this Admin even more unchecked authority.

Republicans have gutted Medicaid, slashed clinical trials and food assistance, and voted to send billions of dollars to an illegal war. Yet they want to talk about the American Bar Association's diversity and equity policies and call it oversight? We have real issues to address.

H.R. 7008 does not actually address congressional or Presidential stock trading. In fact it is a Trojan horse for President Trump’s attempts to undermine our nation’s democratic elections.

Today is Black Women’s Equal Pay Day. Black women in this country are still paid 67 cents for every dollar paid to white men. We stand in the tradition of Bay Area legends like the late freedom fighter and mentor Aileen Clarke Hernandez.

Education is one of the most important tools we can give our young people to set them up for success. That is why I delivered $250,000 in federal funding for Laney College & the College of Alameda's FabLabs - learning spaces where students, entrepreneurs, & makers can utilize advanced technologies.
