I think this gets right to why it short-circuits a liberal's brain when a trans person pushes back at them, because their whole sense of identity is wrapped up in being One of the Good Ones, and usually all they think they have to do to achieve that is "not be a Republican"

one of my most profound memories is from 2020ish, stopping at a taco truck on my way to my shitty job I hated, and seeing two girls in their late teens/early 20s pull up in a big grungy Winnebago. I listened to them talk about the repairs it needed, food and supplies they needed for their trip...
