Every time i see a tracing discourse fly by i always think of how most of Mucha's work, especially the commercial posters, are obviously traced thru a grid method from photographs he took. This has been the industry standard for hundreds of years, before photography they'd use camera obsura...

An old black and white photograph of two figures with a grid drawn in pencil over it and a Mucha poster next to it, with the same arrangement of figures. An old black and white photograph of a lady with a grid drawn in pencil over it and a crop of a Mucha painting next to it, with the same pose.An old black and white photograph of a woman in traditional Bohemian dress and a crop of a Mucha painting next to it, with the same pose, light and drapery. The full painting is shown zoomed out in the middle bottom of the collage. An old black and white photograph of a young girl with a grid drawn in pencil over it and a Mucha illustration next to it, with one of the figures sitting in the same pose as the refeence photo.

One of my favourite paintings, 'A Seated Woman Looking at a Child Through a Window', a ghostly 17th century work by the enigmatic Jacobus Vrel. Next to nothing is known about the artist, did he even exist? More than enough room for a Schalcken the Painter style BBC Ghost Story, I would've thought..!

A woman of indefinable age, seen from behind, leans against a window where a child’s face stealthily appears in the half-darkness. She seems to be trying to communicate with the little girl by placing her hand on the windowpane.

While waiting for the temperature to drop (we’re dying of heat here), I’m taking part in #Vgen monthly contest. The theme: "Ice cream." I hope those of you affected by these heatwaves are taking good care to stay safe.

A little Ice cream witch (Ice creamancer) with his ice cream familiar and magic spoon.

Working on a new piece; thinking about star thistles, how in the western US they are an invasive and noxious weed that readily takes over land that has been disturbed and degraded. or something.

A pencil sketch of two women embracing, surrounded by star thistles. One woman has star thistle spines protruding from her body and pressing against the skin of the other woman attempting to hold her close.

Procession We A slow procession weave in strands of opalescent light our welcome. We waited for you one long sigh And wandered far and slow to find you. Now that you’ve come lay beside so we may hold you wrap you in our sleeping web so to dream of moss and rotting leaf consumed until made whole.
