Every time i see a tracing discourse fly by i always think of how most of Mucha's work, especially the commercial posters, are obviously traced thru a grid method from photographs he took. This has been the industry standard for hundreds of years, before photography they'd use camera obsura...

One of my favourite paintings, 'A Seated Woman Looking at a Child Through a Window', a ghostly 17th century work by the enigmatic Jacobus Vrel. Next to nothing is known about the artist, did he even exist? More than enough room for a Schalcken the Painter style BBC Ghost Story, I would've thought..!
