Okay question for ungulate folks and/or geologists? Why would mineral licks in NE BC be disappearing? #minerallicks #ungulates #biology #geology #mystery

Piikani hunters harvest bison from lands now known as Banff National Park
For the first time in 145 years, groups representing the Treaty 7 Nations and Métis each had a chance to harvest a bison on the lands of what is now Banff National Park. As Terri Trembath reports, Pii...

Winter diet of five sympatric ungulates in west-central Alberta, Canada—inference from DNA metabarcoding of fecal pellets
Diet is one of the determinants of ungulate ecology. However, there have been few studies of the diet of sympatric ungulates in western Canada. We used DNA metabarcoding of fecal samples to evaluate t...

Wow. Caroline Kennedy breaks her silence on RFK Jr in a message to Senators: “We grew up together. It’s no surprise that he keeps birds of prey as pets because Bobby himself is a predator. He enjoyed showing off by putting baby chickens & mice in a blender to feed to his hawks.”

And this, boys and girls, is how federal endangered species law "works" in Canada. 1. Species is listed, based on knowledge 2. Nothing happens, lest provinces bitch 3. NGO sues, wins in court 4. More lengthy delays until a judge orders the gov't to obey its own law and DO SOMETHING

Jurisdictional issues re the SARA lead to a lot of passing the buck as to who's responsibility it is, how much action will really be taken until really no action is taken... sad state of affairs for all listed species in Canada

The IRCC immigration medical for Canada is $225 and you have to go to a physician who's on a special list... all they do is listen to your breath sounds?! And take your height and weight! That's it! They want to ensure you don't have TB, I'm pretty sure my family doctor of 3 years could do that...
Looks like I'm taking a job in Victoria, BC! Which is to say, if you're in Victoria and know of anyone looking for roommates and/or a rental for March 1 let me know! TIA!

Oooh for all the ungulate folks... if you were to give a talk about factors that drive migration behaviours in elk (stuff like plant phonology, density dependence, snow depth etc) what would be your favourite papers to reference?! #wildlife #elk #ungulatemigration

It's been a minute since I've printed a paper! Excited to read this one though! Maybe this is the answer to my career path queries!
This should be everyone's teaching philosophy! Equality =/= equity and, in fact, schools dogged obsession with equality instead of equity is what continues to perpetuate disparity
My teaching philosophy: 1. have an illness- here's your accommodation 2. physical disability- here's your accommodation 3. sports team- here's your accommodation 4. on the range team- here's your accommodation 5. don't want to talk about it- here's your accommodation

This, coupled with very infrequent range health assessments and even less frequent forage assessments, results in 'management' that is detached from current range condition which is a basic tenet of sustainable range ecology!
Great report from FPB! This is such a common problem with range management in the province! There is very little follow up or enforcement of recommended management actions and compliance is basically a scouts honour system! www.bcfpb.ca/release-publ... #rangelandecology
