It's just most people think minimalist designs are objectively better, and that's not the case. It's personal taste.

Assets that I made for the 2024 Roguelike Celebration Steam sale page. 🧑🎨 The tallish tile size here I'm very fond of. I choose it because it reminds me of the tall grid often in ASCII roguelikes, but it also had some benefits when it came to actually draw the tiles & sprites.
