In the ‘90s, books with LGBTQ+ themes were challenged in my hometown library. The library director held several hearings, listened to everyone, and held firm. The ACLU gave her an award, and the local journalism earned a Pulitzer. We have fallen so far.

FYI, this grant program is open to anyone communicating science. It does not require that you went to school for science. You could be a Ph.D. student, an artist, a community organizer, a teacher, or any other profession. As long as you are communicating science IRL in the US, you're eligible.

There’s an episode of M*A*S*H (there’s always a relevant episode of M*A*S*H) in which Hawkeye is so distressed and enraged about the lack of progress toward ending the war that he drives to the peace talks, talks his way in, explains how desperate everyone is for the war to end, and leaves. 1/9

It has been an absolutely exhausting week for public health, and having CVS now be unable to fill my child’s prescription (ADHD meds, so impossible to do normal things like call around to find a pharmacy that has it) 1/3
