I don’t think it’s the best idea to be an elected official lining up behind the status quo in this environment, whether locally or nationally.

Getting attached to individual politicians as people is kinda batshit behavior even under the best of circumstances but it's especially insane in The United States where there's an enormous amount of randomness and path dependency in terms of who gets into these high level elected offices.
We need to stop acting like bike infra is a luxury that should be up for debate and start treating it like the public safety and public health infra it is.

The idea that the wealthy, the middle class, and the poor are all in completely separate housing markets with no overlap ignores how things work in the real world. In the absence of new high end housing, wealthy people outbid the middle class for the best available existing housing and renovate it.

But we shouldnt pretend it meaningfully helps the poor or homeless. They are not competing in the same mainstream market w/ rich or even mid-class.
