More importantly, oil takes longer to extract as stockpiles dwindle, and we are already beyond our capacity to quickly respond to an emergency *right now*

A reminder that the Israeli exit polls do not include the last hours of voting, which is historically when the right sometimes surges, and generally why they have often been consequentially off from the final result.

It is part of the all-consuming "AI is all fake" conspiracy theory that really should end with a combination of Anthropic's S-1, the math proofs of the last month, the post-Mythos cybersecurity environment, etc. ....but which is likely to continue to misinform people anyway.

The argument that AI labs are talking about existential risks as a way of creating hype & inflating their stock prices has always been odd. You don't need to believe them, but telling people your product may murder everyone does not, in fact, encourage people to adopt it or reduce regulatory risks.

Concession after concession to Russia from the US, with zero concessions back from Russia. This isn't about ending the war at all, this is about corruption. Turns out "Russia, Russia, Russia" wasn't a hoax after all.

Did you know we’re below the minimum recommended amount of oil, and just barely above the *statutory minimum* in the Strategic Petroleum Reserve? Lowest level since 1982, and gas is still through the roof. What happens when the war in Iran kicks back off?

NEW: DOGE affiliate Jeremy Lewin oversaw the destruction of USAID even as HR was trying to get him to fill out his onboarding paperwork, per emails reviewed by @wired.com. Experts say it’s unclear he had the legal authority to do what he did. @mollykraskin.bsky.social has the scoop:

A 28-Year-Old DOGE Operative Gutted USAID. HR Had No Record of Him Working There

Despite the agency's human resources department saying he hadn’t even been onboarded, Jeremy Lewin oversaw the destruction of USAID. It’s not clear he had the legal authority to do so.

A leaked group chat amongst six police officers in Charlotte, North Carolina revealed a competition to see who could arrest the most Black people. Current and prospective officials in North Carolina have been quiet. @carronjphillips.bsky.social writes about what this means for voters:

NC Midterm Candidates are Mum About Charlotte Cops’ Bigoted Group Chat

Though the refusal to address this issue isn’t shocking, the acquiescence should not be ignored.

People from Oleshky who wish to return to Ukrainian-controlled territory will first be taken to Crimea or Russia, according to FT sources‼️ At this point, we can only brace ourselves for a massive Russian propaganda campaign, legitimized on the international stage by Newsmax's presence.

A 2025 Nobel Prize winner in chemistry, Omar Yaghi is the son of Palestinian refugees who grew up in Jordan. He just left the US to move to China after raising concerns about rising anti-immigrant sentiment, like the kind shown here. donmoynihan.substack.com/p/china-than...

Before he received the Nobel Prize, Yaghi described his concern about the destructive nature of Trump’s policies to American innovation.

I think it’s regrettable. We’ve learned over and over in human civilization that scholars can move across borders. This is how knowledge spread and how vast regions of the world lifted themselves out of poverty….We have to know that people coming from different backgrounds improve the level for everybody involved. That’s an amazing story. Great thinkers can improve not only the U.S. but the world.

RFK: "There's five hundred million Arabs in the world. And yet they don't produce science. They don't win the Nobel Prize. They don't win the Fields Prize. They don't win the Wolf Prize. They don't produce literature."

The vile attacks on Amy Acton need to be seen in the context of a party that *needs* people to believe women fabricating sexual assaults is common as rainwater. Because it’s pretty much the only way to evade the conclusion that the president is a rapist.

Beyond disgusted by even more rape allegations against the President of the United States. "In total, more than 25 different women...have independently accused Donald Trump of rape, sexual assault, or other sexual misconduct." Report w/ new details: democrats-judiciary.house.gov/sites/evo-su...

Consumer prices are up 30% since the start of the pandemic, three times as much as during the prior six years. While median earnings largely kept pace with inflation from 2022-25, consumer prices over the past year rose more than twice as much as the typical worker's earnings.

This is literally the end of the rule of law. If a President can pardon people committing crimes on his behalf - and the Supreme Court says he himself can't be prosecuted for crimes committed as part of his job - then the government becomes a lawless entity able to violate our rights without limit.
