I've given up teh fight against typos. Deal w/ it. Multiply disabled GenX Cdn. Not as interesting as I used to be, but I can still keep myself entertained. Equality; UBI; gardens, seed saving; books; houseplants; art; music; writing; cooking. #Resist

Public libraries have kids under 16 who visit regularly without parents to use computers and check out items. If their parent needs to be present for them to do that under Bill 28 in Alberta, those kids may stop using the library and visit less safe spaces. #TheMoreYouKnow

Did you know the National Library Service for the Blind and Print Disabled (NLS) at the Library of Congress also serves people with reading disabilities like dyslexia? If you find it difficult to use print because of a reading disability, you can still enjoy reading with free audiobooks from NLS! π§΅

Bluesky should go back to invites, continue aggressive bot bans, create a Craigslist-style marketplace (since youβre more likely to buy/get services from a educated or good person on here than any other social network), and market this place like a walled garden protected from enshittification.
Overheard an irate driver bemoaning that cyclists are using the roads that she is paying for. How do we educate them so they stop thinking that they own the roads. We ALL pay for infrastructure through our taxes but the cars cause the most damage.
There was a time when auto accidents killed over 50,000 Americans each year. Laws mandated seatbelts, which research demonstrated effective, saving hundreds of thousands of lives. Now letβs talk about vaccines.

Just over six months ago, I published my debut novel. A huge thank you to everyone who has bought a copy or downloaded it through Kindle Unlimited. β€οΈ SOMEWHERE BETWEEN LIES amazon.com/dp/B0GH75XHK9
My dog has seen my suitcase and he is on HIGH ALERT. Will not leave my sid, following me to every room, lying down between me and doorways. He is going to *lose his shit* when he realizes that itβs a family road trip and heβs coming with us.
A second round of cyclospora and a new egg recall for salmonella. Weird how this suddenly starts happening when we roll back safety regulations and put idiots in charge.

I read childrenβs books all the time. Itβs my job. And my joy. But I especially enjoy reading in the summer to select 8 books for 5th grade novel studies that I will do with some awesome kids the next school year. And this lovely has risen to the top of the possible pile. β€οΈ

I cannot impress upon people enough that being a teenage gay person now is unrecognizable to what it was like in the 90s and early 00s
"gay guy wasn't excited about being gay growing up in Indiana in the 1990s" stunning news
I think there's a microgenerational gap between older Millennials/young Gen-X and younger Millennials/Gen-Z on this - being old enough to understand the Matthew Shepard attack, not knowing any out gay adults, not having many queer kids at school - and worse if you grew up in an exurb/rural vs urban.
It's unhinged that so many people are digging out Pete Buttigieg's comment about how he didn't want to be gay as a teenager, but that he's glad now that no magic pill exists to make you straight, and twisting it into something completely divorced from what it was like to be a queer kid in that era.
Any time I've tried to read a novel in the past I've had to give up because my brain was just too loud and foggy. I'm finally in a place mentally where I can just sit down and read a book and I'm really enjoying it. If you're like me and you gave up trying, it may be worth trying again
Did you know disabled people are far more likely to be the victims of domestic abuse? Itβs because weβre trapped. When you canβt perform your own activities of daily living, you endure abuse to survive. Another reason we need better safety nets and social supports.
Just finished reading Drive Your Plow Over the Bones of the Dead by Olga Tokarczuk. In a remote Polish village, a real humanist & animal rights whodunnit. The pacing is slow, but enveloping. The characters are fascinating & the writing beautiful. Loved this book. #booksky
