Midwesterner. Skeptical, particularly of "economic anxiety." Trying to stay open-minded but generally, they are who we thought they were. Michigan fan. Dems need to reckon w fact Trump won 48% of Latino voters. Very disrespectful to Beck.

Long thread: This razor thin win by Abdul has got me nervous as hell. I thought either Haley would win in a squeaker or Abdul would win by 6-8% points, and then in a D+7 year, he’d beat Rogers by 3-5%. That can still happen, but there is clearly a lot of work to do & it will be hard. Dammit. 1/n

I can not wait to see where they dredged up the money for this. My stab in the dark is it's going to be an oil company that's taking the profits that are supposed go to Venezuela but now will be used for "brand building" or something www.espn.com/golf/story/_...

There is no way this war ends without Iran getting money. It can be: - directly from shippers via "fees" (cough, tolls) - indirectly via the US or Qatar via "reconstruction funds" - somewhat directly via surcharges on increase oil sales But they are getting billions. Pallets of cash, if you will.

Josh Marshall@joshtpm.bsky.social · 7h ago

as noted yesterday, Trump has now come around to treating an Iranian toll system covering the Strait of Hormuz as a given. Hard to overstate the level of strategic failure. US started the war purely as a war of choice and ends up dramatically empowering Iran and given the Iranian govt big wins.

It is such a boon that Trump & co have decided to go all-in on data centers. The Michigan governor race is going to be a knock down, drag out fight btw Benson and James. Each will try to make the other the "data center by your house!" candidate. Trump sycophant James will now have a harder time.

Hassett: "Data centers are very good for towns bc they create so many jobs & bring people in with high incomes that can buy houses & stuff like that. So if you take a sleepy town that hasn't seen much in the last 30 years & put a data center there, there are gonna be a bunch of happy residents."

It never fails. New coach: "Holy heck...we need to get these boys on a proper program! They should be able to bench press a Buick; they can't even lift a Miata!" I look forward to future stories where the new def will be playing "simpler, w more aggression" www.detroitnews.com/story/sports...

GenX tweet: Heard Aldo Nova's "Fantasy" for the first time in years. What a great 80s rock song: - Fab "futuristic" intro - Anthemic guitar riff with dual leads - Extra loud drums - Lyrics about going to the city streets at night to hang out w hookers & cross dressers while doing blow Good stuff

Right now, on the biggest "liberal" network, MS Now, the morning host (a former Repub congressman) is pounding the table that the head of the DNC needs to be replaced by Rahm Emmanuel b/c "he knows how to win." The information & media environment in the US is just way out of whack for Dems.

Nobody ever explained to me what a passkey is or how they work. Websites just started asking me for passkeys like it's something we talked about.

Reminder: Ritchson is doing these interviews b/c he has a new movie to promote. I plan to see it this weekend. It will likely not make a lot, but if you're interested in a revenge thriller starring a righteous dude, put your money where your mouth is. www.rottentomatoes.com/m/motor_city

"Reacher" star Alan Ritchson calls President Trump a "f**king rapist" in a tirade about the Epstein files.
"That b*tch has the keys to the nuclear codes.
He's, like, all up into 13-year-olds. Like, dude, what? Go to jail."

I don't follow soccer closely, but every time this man's name comes up, he is doing something interesting. Starting a top-tier, prestige job with this message is a baller move. That said, in a world where everyone is a "journalist", I wonder how he will "enforce" this www.espn.com/soccer/story...

This is a big issue which many Democrat politicians, and certainly many left of center political commentators particularly suck up lawyers, need to realize: the Supreme Court has lost the mandate of heaven. The question is what were we gonna do about it?

Stephen West@stephenwest.bsky.social · 3w ago

WaPo/Ipsos poll In their rulings on Trump administration policies, do you think the Supreme Court justices have mainly (decided cases based on the law) or (based on their personal political views)? on the law 25% on their political views 46% no opinion/skipped 29%

I don’t think we are for the disruption that this smoke-filled air is going to cause. There are *so* many outside events during Midwest summers: camps, family movie nights, fairs, reunions. They can’t all be cancelled or moved indoors. People will “power through” and make themselves sick. This sucks

it is pretty insane that the movement which produced the idea that Kamala Harris would go to war in Iran has not produced any sort of resistance, even messaging, about the actual war in Iran
