Pretty sure when you win the election it's a big election night. Pretty sure when your party's leadership all endorses the loser, it means the leadership is out of touch with the electorate.

Susan Collins announcing she'll vote against a controversial nominee is basically the moment it becomes clear that nominee will be confirmed. It means Thune has enough votes to confirm, and thus, Collins gets a pass to look independent.
No no no, unity is when leftists join with ME or it's their fault when Republicans win. Me having to join with leftists doesn't feel like unity, and if Republicans win it's their fault for asking me.
Leftists are supposed to wait for a more convenient season for change. Getting the most votes in elections just shows how out of touch they are with most voters.
The media's takeaway from an El-Sayed win is the same as it would have been from a Stevens win, and the same as it will be if El-Sayed wins the general, or if he loses it: everyone, no matter who they are, needs to take several steps to the right.

A question, though: investigative reporters can move mountains, unearth treasures. Cf, Sy Hersh and My Lai, the Boston Globe's "Spotlight" series, etc. So why has no US journalist been able to discern the physical and mental status of Mitch McConnell for the past fifty days?

In 2011, at the White House Correspondents Dinner, Trump — in the audience — was roasted by President Obama. You could see the steam emerging from his ears. It was perhaps at that moment he decided to run for President. In addition to Obama's verbal comments, there was a screen with this image:

Very disappointed. Reading @olufemiotaiwo.bsky.social ‘s book only to discover it is not, in fact, a how-to book on successfully kidnapping billionaires. Do better. Enough with the false advertising.
So Tillis and Cornyn’s position is that the slush fund and IRS immunity is disgusting, illegal, immoral, and unethical but they are willing to confirm the man who agreed to it as Attorney General of the United States as long as he takes it back.
This is a story about the President and several of his hand-picked appointees all committing crimes and blatantly lying to the public while stealing public funds and abusing the criminal justice system, but the NYTimes describes the situation like they're recapping a soap opera.

The schools that stood up to Trump thug demands—first Wesleyan and Princeton, then Harvard, then many others who were emboldened—have won in court and earned honor in history and support from alums. Columbia showed that appeasement always loses. It's never enough. Don't do it, Yale.

Covid lockdowns demonstrated, in a deeply imperfect way, the possibility of large-scale social solidarity for a higher cause. That is a prime reason why so many powerful people want us to run screaming away from them into the comforting arms of selfish individualist competition.
