For the last round of edits on my creative writing dissertation, I am recording myself reading the stories. Fine. I like reading out loud. Then I'm listening to it. Aaarrgh! The horror! (It's really helpful though)

Today I went to pay my respects to Glen Hansard. The queue was deservedly long but well managed and fast moving. Afterwards I explored the Formal Gardens and approached this statue as Her Mercy from Glen's last album was playing. It just worked.

What better way to celebrate trimester 1 results day than to take on another class to audit? Quick wander around a wind swept St Anne's Park before meeting up with class. Out to Bull Island for a talk about its history and future and to get some environmental writing ideas.

Finished reading this over the weekend. I bought it for a friend due to a staff picks note on the bookshelf. Was totally enthused at when I went to pay... so picked up a library copy :) Worth the enthusiasm and first book in a while I've voraciously "consumed". @emiliahart.bsky.social

A reminder of John Boyne’s own words and why decent-minded people might not wish to be on a prize list with him. He thinks women who support trans rights are “ready to pin a handmaiden down while her husband rapes her.” No one’s “cancelling” him; we just don’t want to be associated with him.

John Boyne on JK Rowling: Rowling’s critics claim she is transphobic, the greatest sin of our time, and use the usual tedious hyperbole to demonize her. Her supporters, on the other hand, are encouraged by the advocacy of a domestic violence survivor who believes that women are entitled to safe spaces, that opportunities for women in academia or sport should not be stolen from them, that a lesbian who refuses to allow me into her dating pool is a bigot, and that children should not be subjected to medical experimentation when they’re too young to make informed decisions about their future. For these perfectly rational beliefs she has been pilloried by three distinct types of person: the middle-aged men who’ve been rejected by women all their lives and have now abandoned the real world in favour of taking out their frustrations on social media; there’s the young people, so indoctrinated by social media, that they fail to recognise actual misogyny and homophobia when they see it. And there are the grown women who are astonishingly complicit in their own erasure. These, perhaps, are the worst group, but it must be remembered that for every Commander Waterford, there’s a Serena Joy standing behind him, ready to pin a handmaiden down as her husband rapes her.

Thanks to RFKJ’s rhetoric, CDC staff got our “shots” early this year. Dark humor aside, live posting our way through this domestic terrorism event at a Federal agency was scary. 180 bullets, an officer lost his life, and workers are traumatized. Why the fu** isn’t this getting more attention?
