saw somebody say that the winner is going to be whoever has chips and I totally agree but it turns out they meant computer chips whereas I think: potato I worried earlier today that I don't have clear goals and plans, but I was wrong
today's youtube short film is kind of a weird one - it's an excerpt of my lesbian mad scientist novelette "The Eggshell Curtain" cut together with visuals of a woman doing endless repetitive housework as time breaks down and runs the wrong direction. youtu.be/B-MyRxPV7rU

there's an online test/study/marketing trick where you rate a bunch of faces for who you find attractive and then it tells you your type by showing back the faces you were attracted to, which you already know because you clicked them? But I love an online test. www.guidedtrack.com/programs/2dj...

comrades, there is a thing called brain water
This #wearable wireless patch tracks your brain’s cleanout process as you sleep. It uses near-infrared light to detect brain water, which is what your brain’s cleaning mechanism uses to move cerebrospinal fluid around to clean up. spectrum.ieee.org/sleep-monito...

Alert: This is basically your last day to vote for this year's Hugo award. Get your votes in! My left-field plug is that I'm rooting for Alex Brown for best fan writer. I'm a fan of that fan!
My own reaction to Nolan's Odyssey is that my full attention was on Himesh Patel once again Going Through It, and how much I wanted the movie to be from the point of view of his character (who we will rename Ancient Times Jeevan) Samantha Morton can come too
Just got to have a "yes it's within my technical and artistic capabilities, but it would be illegal" conversation with an enthusiastic dream-struck hopeful who is not aware of international copyright law. Been a while.
Even if you've already read the poems and decided on your vote, it's worth clicking through to read Holly's reviews of each - explanations of why they work and what makes them distinct. There aren't a lot of poetry reviewers out there, and this is fantastic analysis written approachably.
Here is my round-up of the poems nominated for the Hugo Award in 2025 and 2026! magazine.interstellarflightpress.com/award-winnin...
After a long stretch building in private, Holocene is starting to take shape. We're a virtual cinema for international and independent film, where films screen as events instead of sitting in an endless catalogue. Eight titles are already confirmed with more coming. Launching this autumn. #filmsky
No kings! In 2021 (pandemic) I recorded a talk about pre-modern democracy movements (republics, anarchists) because I was tired of Game of Thrones fans telling me anti-authoritarianism was ahistorical. For America 250, I've tidied it up and added graphics. youtu.be/QWDB8cIlshU?...

The thing that always keeps me grounded is remembering that grizzly bears have enough bite force to crush a bowling ball. I'll never be able to compete with that, so why define myself by such standards?

If I go back 100 years (great grandparents) I'm a nurse, a journalist, an architect, or a grower of prize strawberries as big as a teacup. I possibly start a radio station. we've kind of been gentry for a *while*
Enough “what would you do on the commune questions” If you got sent back 100 years and were given your grandparent’s job, what are you doing?
My adaptation of "Sleepy People" departs from the original text, which already exists and was not destroyed when I made the film. People suggest I should adapt my short stories to film. My short films would differ significantly from the stories, even though I wrote both. Different medium.
It's Tuesday, so I uploaded another of my old films to YouTube. This one's an adaptation of a Jonathan Lethem short story. It's slipstream absurdist science fiction semi-romance. It's workplace comedy in a pharmacy. It's the sudden surreal arrival of United Nations peacekeepers. youtu.be/ftbs023IuGQ

good thread. the rumi poem "god turns us from one feeling to the next so we will have two wings to fly, not one" evoked here. once each wing starts commenting on the other, it's a tailspin. sweet or salty? yes time-based art or static art? yes inspiration & practice > formal constraints, imo.
TikTok has incredible moderation team. Our InfoWars video about Multiple Horse Theory — the idea that there are many horses in the world and not just one — has been fully deemed misinformation and lost the formal appeals process. Confirmed by Larry Ellison: There is only one horse on Earth.
