Hello friends, we made a space on @roomy.space for next month's community day in Brooklyn, Sat 8/22! 🔶🗽🔹 So far: channels to say hello, propose workshops or unconf sessions, scheme on hackathon ideas, & talk travel logistics Join here ⬇️ ⬇️ ⬇️ roomy.space/join?space=d...
we've shared previously that we were planning another community day for August 22nd at @recurse.com, here are the details! more to come soon on talks and workshops 👀
🚨 stage 4 is live! 🚨
My @roomy.space roadmap for next few weeks: 1. Private spaces + invites 2. Permissioned channels + roles 3. Big refactor to AppView + XRPC interface / thin client 4. Push notifications all parallel to @zicklag.dev speccing and implementing an ‘arbiter’ RBAC service for ATProto permissioned spaces
Our migration last Friday went great and Roomy stayed up without babysitting all week-end! Everything went according to plan that time. 😀 Today's devlog talks more about what the next steps are and how we plan to get Roomy running completely on ATProto.

Phew! I just finished a big migration of the @roomy.space data to our refactored AppView! The new refactor stores the Roomy messages directly in the AppView instead of on our separate Leaf server, which was made for our pre-ATProto architecture. The goal is to improve simplicity and reliability.
Following the general release and tentative pro-plan for @roomy.space here's a transparency report & vision for our proto-company's financials. 1. Seed Money 2. The Deal - for Roomy contributors 3. Outstanding Debts - to Roomy contributors -> a replicable model for purpose-driven companies.

Existing communities on Discord shouldn't have to choose between the critical mass of members they've built up on the legacy platform versus the agency afforded to them by @roomy.space Introducing Roomy's first premium feature: Discord-Roomy bridging! 🌉 (free for non-profits)
A bridge beyond Discord

It's been almost a week since we announced Roomy's general availability and we've definitely got some stuff to fix! We'll be trying to make some development notes as we go, and here's the first one.

I shared my thoughts on the time I spent helping out with Roomy. Everybody was wonderful, kind, and helpful to me throughout my time contributing to the project! Here's to another 5 months of working together!

@roomy.space is special. We have been hard at work pouring love into designing the interface. It's been my home after npmx, so if you were wondering where I was, this is the answer. www.jaydip.me/blog/roomy-o...

hey so, @roomy.space is now generally available for real-world use! 🥳 make atmospheric group spaces for friends & community, chat in real-time, progressively structure emergent topics into evergreen threads and cultivate enduring knowledge.

some thoughts on how we model communities on top of the permissioned data protocol this is less a proposal and mainly I have a couple questions at the end that i'm genuinely trying to figure out rn. give it a read and let me know your thoughts!

Another arbiter progress report! An attempt at a goups standard for ATProto. This week we talked to @habitat.network and it got us thinking about how we could inter-op, even with other projects that can't use the arbiter. Now we've got a draft lexicon that I'm hoping can work for both of us.

A new policy-based arbiter prototype and a draft of an interoperable lexicon for group servers.

I just finished a progress report / summary of the arbiter server that we've been working on at @roomy.space. The goal is to have an interoperable standard for group membership management on top of the ATProto permissioned space proposal. The last couple weeks were full of progress & discussion!
Arbiter Progress Report 1 - Zicklag's Leaflets
Lots of implementation progress & lots of discussion with the community.

Here it is! The blog post about @quint-lang.org that I've been trying to get out since Friday. 😄 It gives an overview of the kinds of formal methods I know of, as well as my recent experiences using Quint to design the arbiter service we've been working on.
Modeling Software With Quint
I believe having good abstractions is key to writing good code. But as a coder, I often write code in an effort to find those abstractions…

🙈 You can now make private (invite-only) spaces on @roomy.space! Step 1 done, step 2 on the way very soon ✨
My @roomy.space roadmap for next few weeks: 1. Private spaces + invites 2. Permissioned channels + roles 3. Big refactor to AppView + XRPC interface / thin client 4. Push notifications all parallel to @zicklag.dev speccing and implementing an ‘arbiter’ RBAC service for ATProto permissioned spaces
At @roomy.space we've been cooking up the design for the next, ATProto-native iteration of Roomy, and that includes private data on protocol! The first component that we're working on is a group membership service that we're calling the "arbiter". Here's full overview of the design so far!
The Arbiter - Group Management for Permissioned Spaces and Beyond
The permissioned data proposal has the concept of membership, but leaves it to the app to orchestrate it. The arbiter is our idea for a general-purpose, interoperable ATProto group membership service.

Me and @zicklag.dev have been having a closer look at the system sketched out in @dholms.at's Permissioned Data Diaries - we generally like it! And have some scenarios in mind that may be worth considering

Hope to see you at 10am today! 🥰
so proud and excited to share that I'll be presenting at #AtmosphereConf talking about @roomy.space, shifting communities from mobilising to organising, and how interoperability helps us build collective power ❤️🔥 can't wait to meet and hang out with many of you in person!
Another day, another announcement! 🎉 We'll be doing a Livestream on Tuesday with the lovely @roomy.space folks about the similarities and differences between our two projects, and ways we can work together and collaborate on things. Tune in at 5pm UTC on stream.place/zicklag.dev to chat along 💬
So the issue here was that a Safari bug is truncating, i.e. just chopping the end off, of websocket messages over a certain size in @roomy.space. This makes the messages fail to parse and crashes the websocket. This isn't even in JS, this is in the browser itself.
Massive shoutout to @flo-bit.dev who stayed up late (sorry!) to fix that loading issue 🙏 zick doesn’t have any Apple device and Meri is busy talking to you all so flo truly came in clutch on this one, as he does <3 iOS/Safari is the bane of webdev I kid you not
I just got my first messages over the firehose / jetstream! Thanks to @mary.my.id for the nice atcute libs! I've been here for over a year now, so I suppose it's about time I tried this out myself! 😄 I'm pulling @stream.place messages that _might_ end up in @roomy.space somehow. 👀
Wrote down some thoughts about making @roomy.space more ATProto-native. It's not an established plan or anything, but I think there's a possibility that we make Roomy as "on-protocol" as possible, and I'm excited at the thought of getting to contribute more to the ATProto ecosystem than we are now.
Making Roomy More ATProto-Native
We've said Roomy's was like a PDS, but what if it actually was a PDS?
