there so may things I want to do and fix on Roomy atm but I am stuck with a very slow, flaky internet connection 😮‍💨 appreciate ur patience!

🧵 Blacksky is looking to buy a server for $30k USD. We'd like the following specs or better: - 384 GB RAM - 80 TB NVMe; ZFS RAIDZ2 in 2 vdevs - 1 Gbps + 10 Gpbs burstable - at least 84 threads for the CPU(s) - Ideally somewhere in the eastern half of North America but open to North America and EU

we've shared previously that we were planning another community day for August 22nd at @recurse.com, here are the details! more to come soon on talks and workshops 👀

tfw you show up to the bar and there’s a Dominican monk DJing but he keeps interrupting to talk about God

full time parenting this week while gf does an online course, trying to keep up Roomy workload, and trying to maintain Polish language immersion and I’m like why am I so exhausted lol

📃🐝✨ Excited to share a preprint about BeeKEM, a decentralized / local-first variant of MLS's TreeKEM (group E2EE) that we designed at @inkandswitch.com. Huge thanks to our coauthors for the writeup and empirical analysis — even we were pleasantly surprised by the performance results 📊

so with LTHash replacing MST, ATProto permissioned space ops are commutative and order-agnostic… i wonder if this means we could have a PDS acting as relay to your local devices for storage and just returning the sum of whatever is available. Local first PDS

I’m fully on board with techno-optimism so long as it goes hand in hand with stronger unions and worker coops. Without organized labor, technological advancement benefits empire and its oligarchs far more than the average Joey; just look at what the internet without organizing got us.

Tech workers, are you ready to unionize? If not now, when? Here's valuable info from those who have done it: how to get started and what to expect. (Yes, your employer WILL try to shut you down.) #TechUnion #TechWorkers www.computerworld.com/article/4192...

I work at Google DeepMind. This won't make me popular. But it's all public reporting: 2014: DeepMind reportedly sold to Google on conditions: no military use, independent oversight 2026: a Pentagon contract for "any lawful government purpose" Not one safeguard survived intact

Collage titled "Trust is not Governance — an essay from inside Google DeepMind, written in personal capacity."

A 2014 memorandum, "Conditions of the Acquisition," lists: military applications of DeepMind technology banned; deployment decisions before an independent ethics board (as reported in Mallaby's The Infinity Machine).

Red threads lead to a 2026 U.S. Department of Defense agreement for classified networks reading "any lawful government purpose," with safety settings and filters adjusted at the government's request and no contractor veto (reported terms, The Information, Apr. 2026).

Below: a 2018 AI Principles strip ("no weapons, no surveillance") stamped DROPPED 2025, and a Project Mario 2016–2021 tag stamped ABANDONED.

managed to explain in (very broken, nervous) Polish to the cloak room guy that the library staff said I can work there without a library card ! there is hope yet for a bilingual Meri!

gorgeous first day of DWeb camp had so many illuminating conversations with smart & genuine people. made new friends, ate amazing food, mapped all the bins on camp, saw tech demos, bartended, danced hard
