My department is hiring a lecturer or senior lecturer in philosophy. It's an open call in terms of research specialization, but we're keen to hire someone whose teaching/research speaks to PPE in some way. This is a great job in a great department. Please help me spread the word!

😡 Incredible that Discovery awards will not continue to operate on an island of Ireland basis - read this excellent open letter ⬇️

A few weeks ago, @wellcometrust.bsky.social announced that scholars in the republic of Ireland would no longer be eligible to lead bids to the flagship discovery research scheme. We think this decision is badly flawed, and are asking them to rethink: www.irishhumanities.ie/assets/PDFs/...

While Manchester is engulfed by the smoke from the raging moor fires outside the city centre, I do wonder if the 'three leading academics' have been paid to write the report, and whether the lack of transparency over who funds Policy Exchange should matter for the universities involved

Paolo Sandro@paolosandro.bsky.social · 4w ago

Well, three self-avowed 'leading legal academics' have just written for Policy Exchange that it was 'directly against our own national interests' for the UK to endorse at the UN GA the ICJ's advisory opinion on climate change The report has come out during the second, record-shattering, heatwave

This was a terrific & very fitting final plenary with themes of struggle, resistance, collaboration, hope and love. But it’s not over yet- one more day of panels and a closing party to go 😀

I'm super happy to see this SI on Transnational Plant Studies out; I can't speak highly enough of Sushmita and Banu as editors and their introduction is such a valuable provocation - a must-read for anyone interested in the plant turn, plant studies, and/or the environmental humanities more broadly!

Totally 👏 Why not have done with it and just issue everyone with 1sts when they pay the last instalment of their fees? I mean they are ‘customers’ now not students, have bought and paid for their degrees. We are months away from being listed on ComparetheMarket.Com

This is one of the dumbest and saddest things I've ever seen. We should not think of universities in this way, and if we do that'll destroy everything that is both useful and good about them. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

It’s brutally hot 🔥 but I had a wonderful day in Manchester at the Albatross lecture - organised by Sustainable Futures at Manchester University. The topic was Nature, Climate Justice and Access: Reimagining Who Environmentalism Is For. And Dr Mya-Rose Craig gave the really compelling keynote

Large screen white & black slide background, with abstract shapes in bottom right corner. The text says The Albatross Lecture.
