I have had a 40 oz jar of Duke's Mayonnaise in a shopping cart online for months now and I get so close to buying it so many times but then remember it is the equivalent of 23 USD for what at home would be a 5 dollar jar... VERY DIFFICULT! Kewpie has its place but sometimes you just need Dukes!

I got a snickery talking to by someone on the tube today because I gave a woman politely asking for money a pound. After I did, mean lady proceeded to yell at the woman asking for money for 'taking advantage of us poor tube riders' and then she told me off and said I was part of the problem. BOOO.
What’s up with 4 Czech men getting arrested in Brazil for allegedly smuggling hundreds of endemic cacti? And what can it teach us about responses to illegal wildlife trade more broadly?- a little explainer for @theconversation.com here: theconversation.com/the-strange-...

Incredible chart from @propublica.org. If you don’t follow enviro stuff closely, your instinct might be that the hold-your-nose solution (carbon capture from fossil fuels) would be the “pragmatic” one versus covering Earth in solar panels, which seems utopian. In fact it’s the opposite

I am incredibly sad to hear this news. What a shock. I only knew Raul from our conversations on Twitter and his amazing resources on his blog. What a generous and collegiate scholar he was. He’ll be much missed 😢❤️
I was saddened to learn of the death of Raul Pacheco-Vega earlier this week. I’ve known Raul for a very long time. I’ve written something for my website. Read here: jovanevery.co.uk/in-memoriam-...
www.lrb.co.uk/the-paper/v4... Really important read on the sad, visionless forced march of UK higher ed into a death spiral by an intellectually bankrupt managerial class for no good reason.

This is like trying to drill for oil through the ruins of Pompeii. Chaco canyon is one of the most significant native archeological sites in the United States. Absolutely disgusting to even propose it
From me: Chaco Canyon listed as 'endangered' as tribes, feds spar over drilling

Very good piece on state of UK #Universities from @samfr.bsky.social In general ‘University leaders’ have totally failed to articulate the value of #HE. Sheffield is making brutal cuts as the chickens come home to roost following 2 decades of no long term strategy from government & HE leadership ⬇️
I'm in @theobserveruk.bsky.social today looking at why so many unis are in financial trouble and what the government needs to do to save HE. observer.co.uk/news/columni...

I have nothing to add today to the discourse other than the London attack on the Jewish ambulance service is just despicable and so hateful.
Sinking heart feeling, reading this. I normally dislike the phrase ‘cowardly attack’ but this seems a prime example. Despicable antisemitic attack on soft target that will harm people who are old, sick and vulnerable (and will add to fuel for those who want to sow division in our city).
