Have you noticed, lately, or noticed people around you commenting, that there just seems to be no money anymore. There's no money for companies to make the tv shows you like, the video games you like, the local diner you like shut down, no one you know can find a job. Think about that in context of

AI is now the biggest investment in all of US history as a percentage of GDP. Datacenter construction is up, all other construction is down. "AI Is Squeezing Out the Rest of the Stock Market," reported WSJ 2 days ago. We basically bet the whole economy on the most optimistic visions panning out.

Feeling very grateful for Canadian health care today, as the sun streams into my private room and a volunteer just came into do reiki (!) on me (with my consent). I had to have a small surgery and two nights in the hospital. I'll go home having to pay absolutely nothing. All staff were so kind.

Every now and then I see myself referred to as an "AI Denier" and I want to be clear I acknowledge "AI" exists, it's just I think it's a massive energy drain, created from theft, implemented poorly for inappropriate tasks by loathsome tech executives who get hard at the idea of the rest of us dying

The main distinction between the AI resignations and pronouncements is that while they say there is a >10% chance AI will wipe us out, there is a 100% chance that emissions from all the fossil fuel reserves that exist on these companies balance sheets will wipe us out.

You’ve gotta use AI because it’s the future. But also it’ll take your job. But also it’ll create a paradise on earth and solve most of our problems. But also it’ll end humanity soon. But also you’ll get left behind if you don’t use it right now.

NEW FROM ME: On a hellish third-country removal flight last month, passengers say ICE-contracted guards got drunk, teased and beat them, tied them up, refused to let them use the lavatory. One says he witnessed an ICE agent admit to illegal chain refoulement. prospect.org/2026/08/31/w...

‘What America Did to Me Is Wrong’: Inside One of the Largest Third-Country Removal Flights So Far - The American Prospect

On July 31, an estimated 71 detainees were expelled to various countries on a hellish flight to Africa. Many were then illegally returned to their home countries.

For the first time, a peer-reviewed study has "drawn a straight line from single corporate emitters like Exxon or Chevron ... to specific heatwaves and areas of extreme rainfall." The new methodological framework could make it much easier to hold Big Oil accountable for its climate lies.

It just got way easier to sue fossil fuel companies over climate change

For years, industry has argued you can't prove which company caused which disaster. A new study says otherwise.

Never forget that the clowns who are currently saying “we can’t stop climate change, just accept it” are the same people who spent the last decade doing everything possible to prevent us from stopping climate change.

For creative writing: the most joy I feel is when I'm writing through a tough spot and something all of a sudden clicks. Things are coming together, sentences flow; I am in love with this process. I can feel pride because my pieces took time (literal years) and effort. Prompters do not love writing.

But, now that Google is broken and and AI stuffed down everyone's throat, how are younger folks supposed to build up their own expertise and critical thinking skills? Esp if they're told there won't be any jobs anyway

I genuinely do not understand the AI appeal. At work, a few colleagues gush over Claude. I tried it once for research and it cost me SO much time to correct and fact check, because unlike AI, I know my shit. If you don't know your shit what you will be regurgitating via AI is, well, actual shit.
