Things are pretty awful in the US right now, so I am trying to channel my nervous energy into creative and educational things... So I'm designing a new geoscience education game for my freshman class. It's a quick play card game about the geological timescale... Anyone want to play this semester?

Mass extinction/Paleozoic friends... I have some folks in my Extinction class eager to read about Paleozoic biotic crises, so what's your favorite paper/papers about these events? Both new/exciting and classic/seminal work in the field would be appreciated. Self promotion welcome 😜.

🚨Heads up GSA Abstract submitters🚨 This year you cannot edit abstracts after they have been submitted/paid for. I don't think this is GSA's intention (their confirmation email says you can edit up to the deadline), but don't pay for your abstract until you are done and have no more edits!

Need advice: Colleagues and I recently published a paper, but the journal modified our figures after the proofs, they are now problematic. The only option seems to be to retract the publication, but that seems ridiculous when the journal could have worked with us to modify the figures. Suggestions?

Racist and sexist roots in the cancellation of NSF grants under Trump: Grants with female PIs canceled 2x more than men Grants with Black PIs canceled 4x over White PIs Grants with Hispanic PIs canceled 2x over White PIs Grants with PIs with disabilities canceled 2x more than without

Another scoop from Jeff Mervis (@policyhound.bsky.social): NSF's ~1400 grant terminations have disproportionately affected PIs from groups underrepresented in science: women, racial & ethnic minorities, & those with disabilities. 1/3 www.science.org/content/arti...
