I’m a data engineer-ish person, currently working in healthcare tech startup, focused on improving data quality. (she/her)
Just saying I could use more acts of defiance in my feed. Large or small - both lift my spirit. This rolling over nonsense is not flying with me.
For those looking for lost datasets, this is a great resource. #datasky
BUSPH Center for Health Data Science has developed, www.FindLostData.org a platform that provides a streamlined interface for locating datasets previously hosted on government websites. #busph SPH's Chad Milando shows us how to use this valuable tool. You can use it yourself here ➡️ findlostdata.org
School play gets canceled for "inappropriate content". In response students write [REDACTED], their own anti-censorship play skewering the school district, sells out performances, and ultimately takes gold at the Lenaea High School Theatre Festival. www.kqed.org/arts/1397192...
After Censorship, Santa Rosa Students Write Their Own Play — and Take the Gold | KQED
A state festival awarded top honors to ‘REDACTED,’ which ruthlessly lampooned district officials.

I somehow subscribed to 90 substacks, and trying to clean them out is my weekend project. It might span a few weekends if I can't find a way to do it in less than three clicks for each newsletter.
People have been dunking on this, rightly, and I would like to extend the same sentiment to making websites. Yeah, making a really great website is a lot of work these days. So make a terrible website and have fun with it.
My tried-and-true method to make a long lasting impact at work? Write some solid documentation on a difficult topic and put your name on it 📜
I’ve been working on an RFC and doing code reviews and prototypes for what feel like forever and it’s going to be lovely when it’s done but I just want some solid boring coding for a bit…

Gonna take a break from my engineering job to go play some Satisfactory which is basically just more engineering… so how is your weekend going?
Ok this is super fun! And if you think it’s fun too, clearly you are a fun person. Complexity theory and software architecture. www.youtube.com/watch?v=0qKa...

I feel like engineers need the equivalent of “kill your darlings” that writers have.

"I meet lots of idealistic folks who think that all they’re missing is money, or credentials, or access to the levers of power. More often, what they’re really missing is friends."
Someone on substack shared this as the best thing they read recently. I don't have a ranking system but it's pretty damn good indeed open.substack.com/pub/experime...
My child’s pediatrician advised me to have their passport updated before the end of the year. How’s your day going?

I’m trying to update my profile description and failing - both around character limits and making it snappy. So I’m gonna just throw it here and pin it.
I made this Pride flag using only NASA images and our team thought it would be cool to share on social (I work on the NASA heliophysics communications team), but it's getting all sorts of hate on the bird app and Fbook. Thought y'all might be more appreciative of it here. ☺️🏳️🌈💖
My phone just auto corrected "trauma dumping" to "trauma dumpling," so I painted this in case anyone would like a visual of my mental state. How's everyone else doing?
I know that commit messages are supposed to be informative but my guilty pleasure is seeing someone’s personality in them.
Racking my brain - what is the data modeling approach of “if I can query it I can model it” called? I think @joereis.bsky.social coined a term for it.

I desperately need you all to post more here. I promise I’ll like it all.

Self-confidence is valuable, but so are realistic and specific plans about one's career, which is a thing career coaching should help with? Someone can have a "growth mindset" and still have room to grow.
