The California Governor is not very powerful (though California, its budget and its economy are very large and important). It's a state where the governor is subordinate to the legislature, has limited control over the bureaucracy and is hemmed in by a very restrictive state constitution

The lettuce supplied to taco bell by taylor farms is bad. No taylor farms products are safe until this gets sorted out. But it's taco bell they're focusing on, because taylor farms are major republican donors.

It really cannot be overstated that COVID happened, suddenly a bunch of absentee tech dads were forced to stay home where they saw their kids playing Animal Crossing while talking on Discord, then collectively decided to light a trillion dollars on fire to make Snow Crash IRL.

what’s the worst video game you ever got as a kid? i still remember riding home with a copy of LJN’s X-MEN and being so excited and imagining how cool it would be. years later, i got Superman-64 for Christmas.

Discord is going to be twitter 2.0. Everyone sits around waiting for the perfect answer twiddling their thumbs until jumping on the first corporate answer thrown at them and we're back there a year later with everyone shocked the new corpo overlords aren't any better.

A commonly-misunderstood aspect of computer security is that you are battling computers. No. That is not right at all. Computers are barely involved. You are battling humans who eat apathy and coordination problems.

even before AI this was a problem. I have seen so many things almost ship because they were placeholders that were too good. We got used to them but they would have stood out on release and been extremely ugly. Or in a couple cases a copyright problem (legal for use not for ship)

In gamedev, if you're using a placeholder asset, best practices involve marking it as placeholder so garishly and offensively clearly PLACEHOLDER that you can't possibly miss it. Also flagging that asset in the dev process so it can be identified quickly before the final build.
