We report: the sun is setting to the chattering of the jackdaws. We seem to only come across this group at this time of the day, when we are alone. We have taken to nodding at them, hoping to establish a friendship solely on that basis. The wind is whistling through phone lines.

Digital painting of a sunset scene: dark roofs under a pink sky, with a few crows on the roofs, and one of them flying in the sky. The sky is partly cloudy, purplish where it is getting dark, with translucent pink clouds scattered all over. There is a bright red strip just above the horizon.

We report: last week, we stood outside at night for hours on end during the peak of the Perseids. Tonight, the sky is even clearer, and we would do it again - had the temperature not dropped by half since. Even our jacket feels a little flimsy after a few minutes of staring up.

Digital painting of the Milky Way framed by some brightly lit branches. The leaves on the branches are green, pale yellow and brown in certains spots. The sky is full of stars.

I read a #Murderbot fanfic yesterday and it made me want more Murderbot so I went to the tag like "Gen, ART & Murderbot friendship, sort by kudos..." looked at the first few results, and so now I'm rereading Network Effect.

We report: we thought we had seen all this sunset had to offer, but we stayed a few moments longer. When the sky got almost dark enough for the first planets to emerge from its depths, some of the higher clouds started to glow - and only when those faded was it truly over.

Digital painting of a dusk sky, with a row of golden clouds floating in the dark blue atmosphere. The clouds have scraggly edges, barely connected to one another. There are a few others, dark grey clouds below.

We report: now, there are clouds. Not just a few, not a thin layer, not stormy, let alone rainy clouds; a proper cloud cover. These would normally be somewhat unremarkable to us. Thinking about it, however, it has been months since we have seen this kind of weather.

Digital painting of a countryside landscape: the sky is full of long, grey, opaque clouds, over a yellow field. There is tall, brown grass in the foreground, trees in the background and to the right of the field. There is also a wooden utility pole, and some phone lines crossing the frame.

We report: for a handful of seconds, taken by the sun, we feel weightless. It seems as though it is just us and the sun, and there is the burn and a pleasant warmth at once, a golden glow and the searing light too. The clouds continue to move on, and the sun disappears in them.

Digital painting of the sun glowing through some clouds, creating iridescence around it. The sky behind the clouds is a deep, dark blue.

I sometimes get Japanese words stuck in my head, like earworms. 短い (mijikai: short) is a perennial favorite of my brain, but yesterday it was 動物園 (doubutsuen: zoo) and 手作り (tezukuri: handmade).

We report: we see half a dozen sunrises on the train. The sun emerges from behind the clouds, casting an orange glow across the whole sky, then the clouds swallow it back. Minutes later, another place, the shape of the clouds has changed, but it happens again the exact same way.

Digital painting of a sunrise sky, large swathes of grey clouds spread out across a pastel blue and orange sky. The clouds are all different shapes, some long and smooth, others tall and bubbling. In the middle of the frame, some clouds are bright red, and bright sunshine is coming through. The horizon is dark, trees and buildings.

We report: we do let our eyes get used to the darkness for half an hour, and we remember to only use red lights. We do it the right way, but the moon is bright behind the trees, the sky is still full of smoke, and so it turns out that the crickets are much louder than the stars.

Digital painting of a night sky, only slightly dark; there is a diffuse purplish glow coming from outside of the frame, which makes the sky a pale grey. There are a few stars, dark tree branches coming from the sides.

We report right at the end of sunset, almost exactly missing the sun. Rising in its stead in the belt of Venus, the moon slowly goes from pink to orange. As we try to keep up with it, bats fly by our face, always narrowly missing it. The heat of the day is not leaving.

Digital painting of some layers of long, flat clouds in a bright blue sky, smooth in places, jagged in others. They are bright white on top, dark grey underneath. There is a smattering of small altocumulus in the top right corner of the frame.

We report: we had a busy, fast day, until we sat down here below the sky. Though it is somewhat windy, the clouds seem to be moving at their slowest, and within minutes we found our breathing trying to match the same pace. The sun is quietly setting at the other end of the sky.

Digital painting of a cloudy sunset sky: most of it is covered in grey clouds that have a slight orange tint to them. There is a corner of blue sky; some small clouds are bright orange, starkly detached against the rest of the sky. Some gulls are flying across the frame, their belly tinted the same orange.
