Want to grow kūmara this summer? You can get your crop started now from a supermarket kūmara. This video unexpectedly getting some extra love on the book of faces, so figured I'd share it here too.

As always, some stunning quilts on display at The Festival of Quilts in Birmingham. Congratulations to Silent Eyes by Sung Yeon Park which won Best in Show and was truly the most incredible quilt I saw. It's absolutely stunning. #FOQ2026

A large art quilt hung on a wall depicting a close-up of the wings of a moth or butterfly. Layers upon layers of colour build up the overall effect.

Mōrena! We're Ngaire and Lefty, a pair of pūtangitangi running an unofficial campaign for Bird of the Year 2026 🦆. Lefty has an injured leg, and some nice humans have been feeding us every day to help his recovery ♥️.

A pair of pūtangitangi (paradise shelducks). On the left is a male standing to attention while chatting softly. His wife on the right is busy eating while he guards against enemies. They take turns eating and guarding.

Took advantage of a break in the rain, and had a milo in the sun. Tūī are buzzing a Kerurū in the Kōwhai, (who is ignoring them). There are Pīwakawaka in the Kauri, and plenty of Tūī in the camelia bushes. Plenty of bird song. #tinyjoys

Nash said what they're all thinking out loud. That was his mistake. Misogyny is instead an acceptable practice, eg dumping pay equity claims to make budget. Or supporting an anti trans Bill to select committee. Or refusing to go forward w consent law reform & using it as an election "promise" #nzpol

gotta say the whiplash of the reactions to Graham and then Neill are something else live your life in such a way that people mourn your passing and share stories of your kindness instead of laughing out of relief that you're no longer making things miserable for others

Sam Neill. Such sad news today. Loved him in Hunt for Red October. He inspired my son in Jurassic Park, & fantastic as Uncle Hec in Hunt for the Wilderpeople. His home made movies during Lockdown kept me sane. Deciding which films to watch this week as a tribute. What was your favourite Sam Neil?🇳🇿

Knowing their peril, I’ve searched up and down California for native bees Very specifically green native bees They seem so magical and distant to me, like a creature from some odd world I’ll never be able to find Until this summer… on native Lupine Green Small-Mason 📷🌿🐝

Dozens of Black-Veined White butterflies (Aporia crataeai) swarm a kayak by the Vagran River in the Ural Mountains of Russia. 🦋 The butterflies are attracted to the salt from human sweat on the kayaker's gear and clothing. This happens in early summer when these butterflies emerge. #butterfly

Made my vogels in a different toaster. Burnt it to smittereens. Even more than fashionably chargrilled. Got another 2 slices and turned the dial back a bit. Much better. House is full of toast smoke, so I am enjoying my lunch, in the sun, on the deck. #nzl 🇳🇿🍜
