It’s worth saying this every now and again and particularly before moments like tonight. Anyone of our fellow citizens can stop supporting Trump at any time. Any administration official can resign at any time. There’s always a way back. Redemption is always on the table.
The 2020 fixation is not some quirk, it’s not “Trump being Trump,” it’s not a valid thing for him to talk about or worry about, it’s not part of a larger plan. It’s a deeply unwell person obsessed with slights he’s imagined he’s suffered, who has somehow made that the center of American politics.
