My mom made me jealous by seeing this in a theater last month, but it's finally streaming. It was illuminating to hear other poets discuss the work, since Oliver's type of popularity is typically repellent to academic/critical attention. www.pbs.org/wnet/america...

Friends, book reviews are drying up. We all know this. But it's worth repeating. Advance reviews we used to (gratefully!) count on are no longer a given; we're not getting them. Newspapers where intrepid reviewers used to talk about our books . . . well, you know. PLEASE, if you read our books . . .

They didn't want to live in a retirement home. So these women started their own housing collective in Montreal. Maison des RebElles is a chosen family of 22 women – mostly gay, some allies – that's been flourishing for more than 30 years. www.theglobeandmail.com/canada/artic...

say what you will about the myriad valid concerns with current LLMs but I personally will never get over the fact that Aaron Swartz was prosecuted to his literal death for downloading JSTOR and then a decade later, they downloaded & ingested the entire world and our IP laws just went ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Hey, guys, when the librarians get pissed about the destruction of books, it’s time to put those listening ears on. Because we are very comfortable with the idea that books are tools that can be retired. What’s happening right now is not that.

I don’t know who needs to hear this… but all those art supplies sitting unused in your totes? They’re made to be used. Fuck them up. Get them dirty. Use the markers til the ink is dry. Use all the super glue. Paint til your paint is gone. MAKE. ART. The world needs it now more than ever. #art

For me, LLMs are clearly powerful machines, but everything about their construction and deployment in society by the people constructing them appears oriented around achieving a political project that deeply conflicts with my values or a vision of a future I want to live in and dont have a choice in

This is what is driving me nuts. So many posters around here keep haw-hawing about R’s in strawberry and clearly have NO idea that these are extremely powerful machines *already* that we have not yet figured out how to utilize fully. If we stopped development today, they’d still be astonishing

I work at a public library. People who want to use AI seem to have no trouble doing so. People who don't want to use AI have a harder time. I crowdsourced and then finalized this document "How to disable or avoid intrusive AI" and then gave it a short URL: notoai.org Please pass along if it's useful
