The amount of unilateral and unmitigated power a corporation like mumble mumble has over their employees in an industry like game dev, which remains largely ununionized, is disgusting. It's actually insane to me. We don't have real kings anymore but we do have people with king-like power.

Happy new year, everybody! I'm ringing it in with pneumonia and whooping cough, which is, I suspect, rather unideal. But it's fine. I've been essaying and it feels really good to be writing critical analysis and argumentative essays again. Love exercising my brain like this even when unwell :)
I think what is frustrating to me the most about #DATV is that there's a lot of writing nuggets of gold (and some stinkers, too, lbr, but that's always the case), but it's generally missing a certain je ne sais quoi that ties it all together. Emmrich's story in particular really frustrates me.

#veilguardspoilers One thing I am frustrated by is that I really wish we'd gotten to see Lucanis/Spite foil/parallel Anders/Justice and callback to conversations between Justice and Nathaniel Howe, and have it all reflect back on a spirit of wisdsom who has been bound to a body.
#veilguardspoilers Yeah this kinda sums it up for me. I'm a little unhappy with what we ultimately got, and I think the story of Solas and Mythal relies a lot on essentially ignoring the existing ancient elves as well as Solas' elven followers, but. With the writing as it is, it works.

#datv i am dying to know what previous versions of the game looked like and what they axed on the killing floor. the companions feel like they are missing content, and there's SUCH a marked lack of treatment on religion in the game. it felt so removed from the concerns of thedas.
