Today I learned that baby cranes are called "colts" because their legs are so long and they can run around like idiots shortly after hatching. This is delightful, I enjoy knowing this.

I‘m going to deeply regret this but “Bluesky is hosted in a data center so how can you be opposed to data centers?“ or “You sent an email opposing data centers through a data center” is not nearly the knockout blow that the people deploying it think it is.

Women's Rights Network/Sex Matters took Feile to court to have their event reinstated. It was not reinstated. The two statements released after an agreement was reached give two very different impressions of what happened today in Belfast's High Court.

Today’s outcome is a vindication of Féile’s position in standing up for those who are marginalised. Féile’s decision to withdraw this event from our programme stands. The agenda of many of those who involved themselves in this issue was clear for all to see. Many of the very same people line up every year to attack Féile at every turn, to attempt to damage Féile, and to attack the West Belfast community. They will never succeed. Féile an Phobail will continue to provide a voice for the marginalised, and we are looking forward to welcoming the world to West Belfast to join with us to celebrate Ireland’s biggest community festival. Féile Abú!Statement from Women’s Rights Network Northern Ireland WRN NI is delighted to have reached an agreement with Féile an Phobail which brings the current legal proceedings to an end. The Judge congratulated the parties today, saying they both deserved credit for reaching a resolution in this difficult domain involving emotive issues. Féile has agreed to meet with WRN NI to explore and discuss our potential participation in future Féile events, and we warmly welcome the opportunity for continued engagement. Our women live, work, volunteer and support their communities across Northern Ireland. Our priority has always been to bring conversations about women’s sex-based rights into our festivals, workplaces, homes and communities, and to create spaces where women can come together and discuss the rights that affect their lives. We have done that, and we are immensely grateful for the support we have received over the past week, both publicly and privately. We hope this agreement marks the beginning of constructive engagement and greater opportunities for women’s voices and perspectives to be heard. Our work continues. We look forward to the Equality Commission for Northern Ireland (ECNI) Judicial Review later this year, where WRN NI will continue advocating for women’s sex-based rights and for the safety, privacy and dignity of women and girls across Northern Ireland. What Féile an Phobail row has shown is that women’s rights are at risk — just not from a tiny trans minority Belfast Telegraph27 Jul 2026ALLISON MORRIS I’ve thought long and hard about commenting on the controversy over the cancellation of the Women’s Rights Network (WRN) event at Féile an Phobail — not because I don’t have an opinion, but because it is a debate that attracts the most toxic elements. WRN NI was not a group I was familiar with beforehand, so I did some research. No speakers were listed in the Féile programme for the planned event, which in itself is odd as there are for almost every other of the 90-plus debates and discussions. The group has since announced who its speakers were to be in a series of online posts. My research took me down quite the rabbit hole — a who’s who of the anti-trans movement not just on this island but Europe-wide. I don’t pretend to understand their motivation. In fact, I remain baffled as to why in one of the most dangerous places for women to live in Europe, the group — which has spoken out about femicide before — is obsessing about a small minority instead of the actual dangers we face from domestic violence and femicide. I have worked for decades covering violence against women and girls in all the distressing forms that takes. I know the names of every woman and child murdered in Northern Ireland in the last 10 years without even having to look them up. Not a single one was caused by a trans woman — I checked the list twice just to be sure. None of them were murdered in a public toilet either, which having looked at the online posts of WRN and their many affiliates, is apparently the most dangerous place on earth for women, with trans predators lurking in every cubicle. Apart from the absurdity of much of the group’s argument regarding the perceived dangers of trans women, the claim that women are being silenced by Féile is the most disingenuous of them all.

I used to find the “Star Trek: The Next Generation” episode “Darmok” a bit hard to believe (the one where an alien race speaks in metaphors). However, that was before a large part of my communication revolved around TV and movie references. Sideshow Bob, surrounded by rakes.

At this point I'm just coming back to this thread every so often to see how many more Americans refusing to read "Britain" or ".co.uk" it's picked up. Currently it's about 85% of respondants, including one that may want to invade. And a very angry Canadian that also thinks it's about the US.

And it really particularly frustrating to see any bad act of a full-grown man blamed on his mother. Not even his parents, nope, it must be the mother. Of all the RW media asshats, she's the only parent to challenge her brat's doings, yet she gets blamed. 🤦🏻‍♀️

She's been very open about NOT being a "proud mom" of what he's doing. When she went to a no kings rally, he joked he must have been adopted 😐. I believe he was also not invited to Thanksgiving. One of my biggest fears is my kids ending up like this asshole regardless of how I'm raising them 😫
