Shells with butter from my stepmother's father (an Italian chef). He used some sort of delicious buttery magic that for me, as a child with a sensitive palate, adored. I have been unable to recreate since my high school graduation party (the last time he made it for me).

What’s a meal that haunts you because you can never have it again? Mine is mango rundown tofu, from Jamerica in Madison. I’ve tried unsuccessfully to recreate it form other recipes and nothing has ever come close. And if you search for it, you find tons of posts from other people who also miss it.

SCOOP: Two weeks ago, the head of the CDC delayed publication of a report showing covid vaccine cut likelihood of ER visits and hospitalizations by half. Now that report is no longer allowed to be published in CDC’s flagship scientific journal. My latest. 1/2 www.washingtonpost.com/health/2026/...

CDC won’t publish report showing covid shots cut likelihood of hospital visits

The report, which had cleared the agency’s scientific-review process, had been delayed. It now won’t be published at all, people familiar with the decision told The Post.

I get that the news cycle is packed right now, but I just heard from a colleague at the Smithsonian that this is fully a GIANT SQUID BEING EATEN BY A SPERM WHALE and it’s possibly the first ever confirmed video according to a friend at NOAA 10 YEAR OLD ME IS LOSING HER MIND (a thread 🧵)

An important message from my wife, a leading breast imaging researcher, and a 10+ year survivor of invasive breast cancer found because she knew enough to advocate for her own effective breast cancer screening.

More than 90 scientists at the National Institutes of Health signed a letter in protest of Trump administration policies they say are harming people’s health, in a rare sign of open resistance by career government employees.

NIH scientists have been angry for months. Now some are rebelling.

I think it's important to continuously reiterate that federal science funding grants in the US (and elsewhere) are made because the government, with the input of panels of independent experts, have concluded that the work being done is IN THE INTEREST OF THE NATION.

When the Trump administration froze this Nobel Prize–winning neuroscientist's research funding, he received an email from China offering to relocate his lab to any city and university of his choice, with guaranteed funding for 20 years. www.nytimes.com/2025/06/03/u...

I realize that as a retired professor I have a responsibility to say more on this than I have. International students are essential to the fiscal bottom line of almost every university. This is an unambiguous attempt to destroy Harvard—permanently. And he won’t stop with Harvard. This is madness.
