I feel like people are underrating how extremely bearish this is re: the overall health of the videogame industry. Major investors normally don't let a company get taken private unless they think that there's no major growth left in it. And EA was the most consistently profitable company.

Jason Schreier@jasonschreier.bsky.social · 19h ago

EA officially goes private tonight, meaning: - EA will no longer trade on the NASDAQ for the first time in 36 years - All stockholders of EA (including many employees) will receive $210/share - EA will take on $18 billion (!) in debt, putting it on the hook to pay ~$1.8 billion/year in interest

I think people are overreading a grand narrative and underweighting what is fundamentally a local political issue w/in the Michigan democratic party. (A) competition in the Detroit region between Arab and Black political blocks.

Asher Elbein@asherelbein.bsky.social · 6d ago

I'ts hard to escape the impression that a certain faction of the Democratic Party just straight up does not believe that Arabs specifically -- and perhaps Muslims generally -- have a place as active players in American politics

>DSA recruiter comes up. >"Want to join our new progressive movement? >I ask: "progressive movement or religion replacement" >He's confused. >Pull out charts showing line between radical reformism and secular utopian millenarianism. >"It's a good movement sir." >Joins >Religion replacement

i am begging you — including some of you who follow me that i'm seeing in the OP QTs — to actually read what senate democrats are getting out of this and to stop and think for, like, at least 90 seconds, about what *else* you think a minority party *in both chambers* can squeeze out of the majority

stripping OMB of the ability to dole out grants is an enormous win, this nukes the SAVE act, it prohibits further ICE bailouts, adding a "no, really, trump can't break already on-the-books laws regarding elections the federal government doesn't run" clause would be both unnecessary and unproductive

*Extremely* funny that Alejandro Brito somehow managed to fuck around and find himself in actual litigation. Man genuinely though he had just secured a colossal meal ticket simply acting as the mouthpiece for shakedowns.

NEW: Trump and family are appealing the sanctions order in Trump v. IRS. and have asked for a stay of the sanctions order pending appeal I noted an appeal was suggested when DLA Piper lawyers entered appearances.

Unironically one of the biggest "flaws" in the constitution is that it was written for an era which presumed that men would be violently defensive of their personal standing. It's why the founders could have never imagined congress' steady surrender to the executive.

biggest surprise from the Lincoln bio I'm reading. The dude just loved to get into fistfights. He's cornered by a gang after beating their leader and yells: “I’m the big buck of this lick!” And they back down! Who knew the great emancipator had a little WWE in him?

If Christopher Nolan had the courage of his convictions the Odyssey should have had a post-credits scene of Odysseus and Penelope promptly sailing to Charlize Theron's "drugs and sex forever" island.

Hi everyone, I want to ask a personal favor. My wife's favorite pokemon is Crobat, but Crobat is not a popular pokemon and there's virtually no merchandise for it. Please post a lot about crobat and how much you like crobat so the algorithms tell Nintendo to make more Crobat stuff.

(ANALYSIS =/= ENDORSEMENT) Heard v. Depp is a very good example of why you have to be extremely careful about what cases you do and do not make into causes celebres. To use a legal term, the public treats test cases as if this was pure contributory negligence.

Srutis 🔞@srutis.bsky.social · 2w ago

It is maddening how he has seen absolutely no impact in his career from the Amber Heard trial simply because she wasn't the perfect victim in the eyes of the public

The Odyssey is doing so well because it’s the further tales of a cunning general who, while serving an aura farming commander clad in imposing black armor, uses a huge four legged device to break impenetrable defenses, subconsciously filling people’s desire for more Veers stories

I think Bluesky doesn't get just how many groups didn't migrate over. If you're even somewhat seriously in the OSINT space, you're stuck on twitter because of how few international communities moved over. This is an almost purely US-UK site.

The decision of so many people to keep using X in its race-war phase has made me a bit more cynical overall about the ability to draw moral red lines. It’s beyond disappointing.

$50K isn't an extra year of lifetime earnings because a year of extra lifetime earnings comes with a year of extra lifetime expenses. $50K is more like 7-10 years of savings for someone who is *really* scrimping, which is a genuinely major windfall.

Will Stancil@whstancil.bsky.social · 2w ago

My financial advisor: "Well, you see, the extra $50k, while nice, really just represents about an extra year of lifetime earnings, while the potential $1,000,000 would dramatically trans-" Me (shouting): HOW DARE YOU SAY 50k WOULD NOT CHANGE MY LIFE?? HAVE YOU NEVER KNOWN A POOR PERSON?
