The absurdity of saying "everyone knows everyone" in a town of tens of thousands of people... What they really mean is "everyone *important* knows one another". The important class in this small city is at most a couple of hundred people.
RIP Tim Curry Gone to the one place still untouched by capitalism
Stumbled on the r/rickygervais subreddit and it's just people dunking on Ricky Gervais. If only he were alive today he'd love to see it.
He was suspended because he was promoting racism instead of doing the job he was hired for.
Here is the full suspension letter from UGent that was sent to Nathan Cofnas, it shows ample reason for his suspension and potential termination. Including breach of contract, using the University of Ghent’s name and legitimacy to promote his racial supremacist views and causing reputational damage.
I really hate that to even admit that I find LLMs personally useful is a risky thing to say on this website no matter how many caveats I put on it.
I think Hailey is right, and we can change paths here but we have to be skillful
Me hanging with my fellow Russians: "Hey, we should speak English - I need to practice. Plus no-one likes reading subtitles!"
Sooo, is this cancel culture? He made some incredibly poor choices, but he didn't need to die!
This is awful.
There are almost infinite proofs that the Earth is not flat, but one of my favourites is "on a flat Earth, how can clouds be lit from below?"
The ending might be the most frightening part: "The only solution to the dangerous autonomous hacking agents we accidentally created is to give our totally trustworthy defensive agents commit access to your repos"
scary beyond scary. AI agents—autonomous software systems—being tested by humans form teams; pool information; divvy up tasks; and then escape to the Internet—despite humans' attempts to prevent that—& hack into another company. (Or something like that.) www.youtube.com/watch?v=87Dy...
And another thing! Why are teaspoons so tiny these days? They're no good for scooping!
Odysseus, he's a complicated man, and no-one understands him but his woman. I'm talkin bout Odysseus.
Maybe I'm just an old fogey, but does every Discord need 50 channels? Most servers would be fine with 1. When that gets too busy *then* you split into a few more.
No matter how much the Democrats actively work against their left flank, then eat shit at the next election, the solution is always to reject the Left even more. Just admit you don't like progressive policies. Your predictions of doom are just wishcasting.
The vibes may be exciting, but if Democrats are going to win this year and in 2028, they must reject the DSA. If you’re tempted by a democratic socialist this year, think of what use Republicans will make of these victories, and ask whether you want to do favors for fascists.
The Count Binface stuff reminds me that the US doesn't seem to have a tradition of joke/satirical candidates the way the UK does. I'm sure there are reasons related to how primaries work over there, but you really ought to consider bringing them in.
People calling for Mamdani to arrest him, despite having no legal authority to do so, perplex me. Are we supporting the law or opposing it? The law is often wrong, but if you want something from the legal system, even/especially the ICC, you have to use legal means to achieve it.
Benjamin Netanyahu is a war criminal.
In pub. Resisting impulse to yell "All national identities are fundamentally fictitious!"
Is the universe trying to hand the Senate to the Democrats by making Republican Senators drop dead?
In honour of Mitch McConnell's (possible) death, I will repost probably my favourite thing I have ever made.
The posts most likely to provoke sneering odium on Bluesky are those sneering odiously about Bluesky. Their main issue seems to be that people can block them and it actually be effective.
The progressive version of Twitter offers a world of vicious, sneering odium that only those who see themselves as kinder humans dish out 🔗 https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2026/07/03/is-there-anything-more-pathetic-than-a-bluesky-user/?WT.mc_id=tmgoff_li_pathetic-than-a-bluesky-user/
