I finished re-reading Daniel Abraham's (@abraham.bsky.social) Long Price quartet and I loved it even more than 10 years ago. It's superb: the politics, the feelings, the subtleties, the culture, the physical language of poses, the magic concept... wow! Everyone should (re)discover this series 📚💙🪐

Our criteria for success are disastrously skewed. In my view, a successful person is one who does more good than harm, on any scale. On this measure, most billionaires are massive failures, while humble folk in my neighbourhood who look after other people are highly successful.

Really great article! And a sort of connected thought: reading a book on maps and they write that "everyone knows where everyone is" - but, do people really have the Location settings on all the time? Or can these companies find it even if it's not active?

A composer I love is finally coming to the UK. I'd be willing to travel, but seating is unallocated. I can't handle that 😢 If I knew I had a fixed place I could mentally deal with the crowds/people around, but rushing to a good seat? This isn't pop, it's contemporary (piano), why the confusion?

Today I discovered why the shorter Look North bulletins show the weather forecast in Norfolk - by reading chapter 5 of "This way up", a super book about maps that go wrong. It comes from back in the 70s when they were setting up the masts for colour TV, and the country was split in a crazy way!

Page 106 from the book, it shows Yorkshire Television's broadcast area in 1974, covering not only part of Yorkshire, but also a big chunk of Lincolnshire and even part of Norfolk!

I've finished reading Prof.Brian Greene's latest book "Until the end of time", a great exploration of physics in consciousness and evolution in the cosmic timeline. Also read Ian Wade's "1984 the year pop went queer", revisiting my teenage years and reminding me on how different things were then 💙📚

I've finished "The Raven Scholar" by Antonia Hodgson, a fantastic book! It's very more-ish and once you understand the items that 'just' look like tropes, it gets better and better! Great fantasy that will become really epic. Thanks @cupiscent.bsky.social, I only got it because of you haha 💙📚🪐
