Gotta say, Dan may have just dropped the most robust post-election analysis to date. Props to Dan.
I live around the corner from a street that became viral on Chinese social media as "End of the World Coast (世界尽头的海边)".
What's the most famous film/TV location near to you? For me it's probably On Her Majesty's Secret Service. The scenes shot in Bern are quite close by, and the Piz Gloria/Lauterbrunnen scenes are a short-ish drive (& cable car) away.
I think there's a tremendous symmetry in this Ganz lightbulb and the 404 Media article about the fart-sniffers on Twitter doing Anakin memes, which is that fascists believe punishing your enemies will magically solve the social problems that landed them in power in the first place.
"Fascism is inherently an incoherent response to genuine social problems. It can’t resolve the crises that bring it to power because its entire political imagination is organized around a systematic misapprehension of their causes" www.unpopularfront.news/p/nemesis
"I think Trump didn't do 50 different things he should have done. I think he should have gone a thousand times harder. I think that he wasted his time selling trinkets and nonsense" www.404media.co/republicans-...
Republicans Learn X Is the Echo Chamber
It turns out you can’t post Malfoids and Anakin when diesel is $6 a gallon and expect America to vote for you.

"One can see nemesis all over the Republican defeat. They confused a narrow electoral victory with an irrevocable popular mandate, their temporary and in many ways accidental possession of power with a permanent transformation of American society."

the only way this makes sense is if there was just a generational shift in texas hispanics. something like california saw after proposition 187
I'm really happy to take back all my skeets saying Texans would crawl across broken glass to vote against even a Jesus freak Democrat
The thing is that people see that NYT and other outlets are not accurately describing reality and they're reacting to that.
I've been deeply critical of the NYT on many grounds over the years, but I think people whose criticisms of the NYT amount to "The NYT doesn't work for the Democratic Party and will publish bad stories about Democrats even though Donald Trump exists" should be honest with themselves about that.
contrast healy’s response to me with politics editor amy gardner’s explanation to him about why they published the alaska story. she admits *not* publishing would amount to putting their finger on the scale—but *not* publishing details of a rape allegation against the president, per healy, isn’t?
More or less a Rosetta Stone for American politics
My genuine take is that everyone is willing to put up with it when they don't feel personal hardship, but once they do, everything else he does pisses them off 20x more. He can talk about Husted's ass when my 401k looks good, but when he's assposting at 3 am and gas is 4.50, it feels different.
Two things are true: 1. Claims about AI capabilities are overblown 2. AI has completely revolutionized software development, and will do the same to many other fields I'm a software developer by trade. I'm going to attempt to explain what this revolution feels like "from the inside".
Deleted a post but in my defense I have a five year old and have seen less than five movies in that time that were not Gabby's Dollhouse or Zootopia
if dems win, they will have won under full competitive authoritarianism—highly skewed districts, diminished voting rights, an bifurcated legal regime, & a media that won't even report rape allegations against the president that will be an astounding achievement, however you slice it
This is genuinely fascinating stuff. The answer seems to be that 2020 (and for some reason 2012) was simply excluded from its training, I assume intentionally, forcing it to look it up. Because there's "disagreement", it refuses to answer.
You can count on @npr.org to keep you informed about all of Trump's rallies and none of his rapes
White racial solidarity now demands a defense of The Cheesecake Factory and so a public narrative of The Cheesecake Factory as cherished cultural institution is conjured up.
Our paper of record has no interest in reporting the President's "interconnected sex trafficking operation" and little interest in his "active participant" and close friend outside of his employment troubles. democrats-judiciary.house.gov/sites/evo-su...
my nuclear-grade AI hot take that’s sure to get me cancelled until kingdom come is that refusing to use AI at all is rapidly becoming an extremely privileged lifestyle choice that feels social justice-y while actually being the complete opposite
being anti AI is a luxury belief only available to first world people, especially Americans imagine how important machine translation is for people whose first languages aren't that common
Really seems like Yglesias has gotten dumber on purpose. He wasn't really this dumb in his early career.

In MAGA, parental estrangement is a big issue — and parents are held out as blameless victims. I suspect that's one reason why Vivek Ramaswamy ran an ad celebrating Amy Acton's vile mother. And why MAGA — including Vance and Trump — are backing him. www.salon.com/2026/10/23/r...

I can understand why people around here are annoyed with LLMs for all kinds of social reasons real or imaginary, but it still amazes me that someone can take the attitude of "I haven't seen any legitimate uses for AI". Like, I haven't seen the Hope Diamond but I believe it exists!
