This is a particularly British enquiry: I don’t know of any other country that has investigated the targeting of left-wing groups like this. But my assumption is that the security services in every Western country did this, so that there is a long list of similar atrocities waiting to be found.

So I think maybe I just figured out why @timeshighered.bsky.social has not reported anything negative about James Orr. I could very well be wrong, but here we go: In 2024, THE signed an agreement with Hungary's Culture and Innovation Ministry which oversees Hungarian higher education..
There is one article that mentions Cambridge Associate Professor James Orr on the @timeshighered.bsky.social site since 2025. There is no photo of him in it. No mention of his alleged misconduct. No mention of his alleged criminal conduct or indeed Christofascism or ethnonationalism.
Not sure how prevalent this is, but in the rural Atlantic Canada communities I grew up in, there is always a bedroom on the ground floor for older family members to die in. Because those stairs will kill you. It’s also weird inheriting that bedroom after a grandparent has died.
Nope, that's accurate. I started making myself reach for the handrails when I turned 40 so it would be muscle memory when I got older, and it's already saved my ass a couple of times when I've slipped on the stairs.
The Daily Wire crew laughed as they introduced a scene in their new slop movie where a gay guy gets kicked off a roof and a queer woman gets her throat slit.
“…we can build a legal framework that is more than a cynical tool with which to punish one’s enemies and also better than what preceded it — something capacious enough to protect all minorities, principled enough to command legitimacy and resilient enough to resist political manipulation.”

A campaign for *MSF* to be banned as a terrorist group (on the paper thin basis of claims about 2 past employees) is the product of the UK Govt being willing to divorce any meaningful conception of societal threat from its use of proscription powers. Govt needs to wake up to the madness of this:

A civilian geography professor was fired from West Point for pushing back after department officials barred faculty from teaching that humans contribute to climate change.
You have to think that it is fine to use a large dataset cobbled together from estimates derived from multiple uncalibrated instruments, arbitrarily adjusted post hoc, occasionally made up, massaged, etc. to make sweeping statements about all of humanity. 30/34
Exactly this. I would take it further, in that that exclusion itself was politicized on identity grounds. Look at how fast the term ‘snowflake’ disappeared as a pejorative, when the students and faculty expressing fear belonged to groups that universities and commentators actually cared about.
Somehow in North American debates about free speech and academic freedom this idea is most often used as a demand placed on others—obviously they don‘t understand intricacies of legal freedoms—who want to take steps to exclude racists, misogynists, transphobes from academia and polite society. 2/
