To the students whose essays I’m marking in an airport with HR on the background … I’m sorry. I’m going to need to read them again later. And also yes, it’s this gripping. Don’t ask how many times I’ve rewatched it already. #heatedrivalry Also also … how do I post to HR threads?

Tomorrow (Tue 1 July) I’ll be speaking @psioxford.bsky.social #PandemicSciences25 Conference on the Global Governance of Pandemics and Incorporating Science into Law, focusing on our work on the #PandemicAgreement It’s wonderful to see how much enthusiasm there is for the new treaty.
Tee hee made it through day one of the #pandemicsciences25 conference and still healthy in the outbreak simulation!
Well this is a rather gorgeous spot for a #pandemicsciences25 conference lunch! #heatwave #climatechange #pandemic
First panel of the #pandemicsciences25 conference. Really interesting discussion about early detection and spillover events in zoonotic diseases and how they can inform pandemic preparedness
Really loved the opportunity to learn more about the opportunities and pitfalls of life as an early career researcher from such amazing speakers as @peterhorby.bsky.social and others at the workshop before the #pandemicsciences25 conference

Some advice for trainees: a) don’t emulate any arrogance and complacency you might observe in your seniors b) don’t automatically assume that what’s done in England is the best in the world c) engage with those who are affected by your decisions d) get out of your lane and make connections

eight years ago today we all watched the glory of zendaya falling madly in love with tom holland and the internet was never the same
This week’s main story is about the budget and staffing cuts being made to public health agencies in the U.S. under RFK Jr.’s leadership, how those cuts will impact all of us, and some foolproof ideas for what scientists can do in the absence of totally superfluous stuff like, y’know, centrifuges.

The degree if overlap between a AI generated virus and the experimental findings is incredible! One took 5 years, the other 5mins. But really demonstrates how AI can compliment traditional experimental methods, a great presentation from Dr Joe Grove #ukpsn25

Don’t shame people for not immediately reading all the books they buy. Some books aren’t made to be ready right away, okay? Some books need time to mature. Some books need to cure for a while. Some books are prosciutto, and don’t you forget it.

What I love about what Harvard is doing is that it’s A. Right. B. Leading for all others because it can, and therefore must. C. In its longterm interest too. It must be one hell of an internal reorganisation of funding, investment etc. to do this well. And I imagine a massive fundraising push.
