Old movies, old guitars, old records, old books, old photos.

Today, August 4, 2026, is the setting of Ray Bradbury’s short story “There Will Come Soft Rains” about a fully automated house continuing on after the family who lived there and the world around it died in a nuclear blast.

I love this banjo picking ghost. The best part for me is that the ghost is playing a Boucher banjo, which has that unmistakable scroll-shaped peghead. I like the way the shape of the peghead is echoed in the ghost’s shroud.

Okay, the first prompt for #AuGhost26 was "any & all ghosts" which is a freebie for today since I hadn't made the prompt list yet But it was the perfect opportunity to make this one for @selmerguy.bsky.social who specifically requested a ghost playing the banjo So, here's a 👻 playing a 🪕 😈🎨🦇

@slipperyjack.bsky.social I’m chuffed to get my copy of Tales Accursed that has been professionally defaced by Richard Wells with an illustration of the standing stones at Avebury. The book came wrapped in paper printed with an excerpt from No Man’s Land, a handwritten receipt and a postcard.

🧵Wherever I go I can always find a new ghost story… Today I’m sat here at Salisbury Train Station and I started chatting to one of the guards. Omg! 😦 This place has A LOT going on. 👻 One story is that of a fireman, one of the tragic deaths in the 1906 Salisbury Train Disaster which killed 28.
