When politicians and other notables only had the legacy media to connect with the public they had a filter. The media effectively laundered their worst blemishes so they seemed to be reasonable human beings, almost decent people if you like. That’s no longer the case.

My dad told me his dad took him to see an X rated film in the mid fifties. Dad was 14 at the time and my granda insisted to the ticket seller that he was 18. They let them in. It wasn’t a dirty film, they didn’t really have those in the North East in the 50s. He sadly didn’t recall what it was.
