It's awful to watch beautiful buildings around the city (and the rest of the country)left to rot by their owners and facilitated by Councils Many hours of sewing went into that banner! @frankmcdonald60.bsky.social @frankoconnor.bsky.social #DerelictIreland
These are the real people of Belfast. Thousands of anti-fascists rally against the far-right at Belfast City Hall today. They sent a clear message that racism is not wanted in their city. Things you love to see ✊❤
Some really interesting events at the Jaipur Literature festival in Dublin next week. I am planning a trip to Jaipur early next year and came across this, serendipity in action! jlflitfest.org/ireland/city...

A group of craft activists will launch the Irish Pachamama project next week. The aim is to alleviate period poverty making reusable sanitary pads that are distributed around the world wherever the need is greatest. We are meeting tomorrow Sunday in Phibsborough.
The front cover of tomorrow's Irish Times magazine. I'm still feeling the warmth of her conversation with Fintan O'Toole in last week's @phizzfest.bsky.social @sallyhayd.bsky.social
Last night at the Big Book event in Dublin with HarperCollins Ireland/ @4thestatebooks.bsky.social. It was wonderful to get to meet in person (& thank!) so many lovely & passionate booksellers, without whom our work would never reach any audience.
The sooner Ireland and the EU end all economic & political relations with this terrorist state, the better. Kudos to Haaretz, a rare voice of truth, for reporting on Gestapo-style Israeli policing.
The bill has been defeated, by 85 votes to 30. Only three government TDs voted in favour, despite having a free vote, with Sinn Féin abstaining.
The SocDems’ Jennifer Whitmore has broken down in tears during a Dáil debate about widening access to abortion in Ireland. TDs will vote this evening on removing the 72-hour waiting period for abortion within 12 weeks, and removing the 28-day limit applying to cases of fatal foetal abnormalities.
Only 30 TD'S voted in favour of positive changes in the abortion law. Shame on all those who voted no or sat on the fence and abstained.
Social Democrats' Bill proposing abortion law changes defeated in Dáil vote
The bill proposed to scrap the three-day waiting period and change rules around fatal foetal abnormality cases, but ministers had raised legal concerns.

They are so lucky to have @sallyhayd.bsky.social for the #GalwayArtsFestival. Her appearance, with @fotoole.bsky.social @phizzfest.bsky.social was an inspiration, a reminder there is still love and humanity in a cruel world #thisisalsoalovestory

Emilie Flöge was really interesting as was her very talented companion Gustav Klimt, a fascinating relationship.
Emilie Flöge (1874-1952) was an innovative Art Nouveau Austrian fashion designer who aimed to reform dress designs for women. Though (typically) not noted widely by history, she influenced the work of her companion, the artist Klimt and featured in his work #WomensArt
Testimony is showing during @phizzfest.bsky.social next Saturday May 9th. An opportunity to see this powerful documentary on the big screen.
Looks like I picked the wrong time to come to Crete! On the bright side we are indoors up in the Lasithi Plateau in front of a big log fire drinking Cretan wine.
Sandstorm in Crete today
Latest toll since March 2, released by the Lebanese ministry of health. 886 killed including 67 women & 111 children.
Really looking forward to reading this.
I'm starting to put together a list of places that already have my new book 'This is Also a Love Story' available for preorder (as we know preorders really help overall reach). I haven't found any Irish ones yet, if anyone comes across one do let me know. sallyhayden.net/2026/01/26/t...
This was my favourite book of 2025. I'm enchanted by Elif Shafak
What are you reading this week? This is my first book of the year, a copy of There are Rivers in the Sky signed by Elif Shafak after her beautiful talk at Stroud Book Festival. I'm so excited to kick off the year this way. What's your book of the moment? #BookSky #WritingCommunity
an extraordinary person with an extraordinary legacy who nevertheless didn’t take herself too seriously when Gary Larson published this cartoon, she was in Africa and her institute was horribly offended and drafted a complaint the whole thing was defused when she returned - she found it funny

A reminder about the ethical protocols underpinning the work of the Magdalene Names Project & why we don’t publish lists of names. If you’re seeking info about a deceased family member, or if you’re a survivor seeking evidence of your confinement, you’re welcome to contact us.
JFMR has updated our Magdalene Names Project webpage. The update includes important information on our ethical protocols, and why (save for a small number of exceptions) the Names Project does not name women (living or deceased) on our website or in publications. jfmresearch.com/home/magdale...

- you clean up that banksy? - sure did, your honour, leaving a perfect, permanent outline, imbuing the work with real fuckin gravitas while making its point better than the artist did himself just like you asked
They erased the new Banksy mural in London. But the stain remains.
