Getting to design characters for a murder mystery visual novel set in the Myst/D'ni universe was such a blast, I hope this also sees the light of day someday:

The other (much smaller) game @shoomlah.bsky.social and I worked on near the end of our time at Cyan is shown here (@ 28:07). "WhoD'nit?", a Myst visual novel / Phoenix Wright style murder mystery (and yes you would obviously be able to flirt with all the suspects!) I still really want to make this.

LOOK the contacts in IWTV absolutely make sense from a production standpoint—I'm sure its prohibitively expensive to do vfx for the vampire eyes throughout the entire series—but sometimes I just GOTTA do a quick repaint to see the proper eyelines on my sweet baby bug-eyed boy

one curse of working on properties you love is losing the ability to participate freely in fan spaces—there'll be some lore discourse in the Myst discord and, best case scenario, I just gotta sit there VIBRATING with information I cannot possibly share

I'm not sure if folks know that all the art for Neopets Magazine was still done by the in-house Neopets art team! Very little was outsourced back then when it came to merch/tie-ins, which was kinda unheard of at the time. A couple of my spreads, from my last summer working at Neopets:

New to the library: we've digitized the complete run of Neopets The Official Magazine. Yes, Neopets! It's important game history, and here's why:

if i seem laid back and relaxed to you, it’s an elaborate ruse - i actually carry the kind of tension that makes massage therapists and other health professionals say “wow” and “oh no”

@cyan.com's rerelease of the Classic PS1 versions of Myst and Riven last year meant new trophies, which meant new trophy icons, which gave me an excuse to get all weird and illustrative with it! Always fun getting to revisit these worlds:

Just got back from a week-long art intensive studying horse anatomy with Terry Whitlatch out at New Masters Village in Mancos, CO! I've followed Terryl's work for over 20 years, and her passion and expertise is unmatched—feeling challenged, refreshed, and like I want to draw a bajillion horses. ♥️🐎

havin' a real Old Man Yells at Cloud moment here, but I do chuckle watching someone brute force their way through Riven in a couple hours by crowd-sourcing hints when I played that game over the course of, like, an entire month back in 1997

I don't want to shoot videos I don't want to post tutorials I don't want to show my process I don't want to pour varnish I don't want to turn my canvas I don't want to record my screen I don't want to cultivate parasocial relationships I just want to make pictures and shitpost

The way profit maxxing corpo culture has invaded every form of art through algorithms pushing people into daily posting is really weighing on me lately. Efficiency and regularity of making "content" being prized above all else feels so grim, man.
