Recent Winter Art in JAPAN Every winter, I often return to the same places. Yet no matter how many times I visit, my mind resets, and I see the scene with fresh eyes each time. I capture something new and bring it home. Even now, this winter treasure hunt has me running through nature like a child.

The season of Renge Tsutsuji has arrived in Japan. Delicate crimson blossoms grace the forest, enchanting all who pass by. Summer is here — and on clear mornings, a gentle mist rises through the trees, softly lit by the warm sunlight. It seems this month will be a busy one.

Winter in Japan is coming to an end. This year saw record-breaking snowfall, likely reported worldwide. However, it didn’t feel like much since the heavy snow lasted only a short time. It was a strange year. Still, those fleeting moments created beautiful landscapes, and glad I took them in photos.

I’ve photographed this Eastern Sierra aspen grove in every season, but November revealed something new. With the leaves gone and no snow yet, the frosty brush glowed purple—a color I’d never seen here before. Whether real or a mix of red branches and blue shadows, it was beautiful to see.

'Souls Tied' On 02/07/22 , I received a phone call from Nigel Danson who informed me that my image 'Souls Tied' was the overall winner in World Landscape Photographer 2022. A classic image of mine, and one that is deeply personal. Alt text for the story behind this deeply personal image.

Story behind this image: In 2021, a good friend of my wife's sadly passed away. Lynsey, was diagnosed with a brain tumour in October 2015. When diagnosed, she was informed that she would be lucky to see Christmas that same year. However, Lynsey bravely battled the cancer for five and a half years before she passed on 11th April 2021. This image was made on 14th April 2021, the morning of Lynsey's funeral. As soon as I seen the two birds fly into my frame I was immediately reminded of Lynsey and her husband Simon. This is a very poignant and personal image.

I drove up to Oldshoremore, an incredible white sand beach, common in the NW of Scotland. Had a bit of a scare on the way out as my rented car couldn't get any traction getting up the icy hill. Fortunately managed, but luckily no-one had come down as I was trying to get up it! #AwesomeFoursome
