i love the subway

In the replies of a post reminiscing about a beloved local restaurant that is closing after 45 years. There are still Ignatius Reillys among us, you just need to look

reassuring that even after a summer like this one, the city is absolutely fucking dead in the last weeks of August. Make reservations! Go to polo bar in flip flops. Fire bomb a private school! It’s August 19 in New York!

Going down the instagram rabbit hole of some person who found a stranger living in their Queens apartment and loving how hard the NYPD is leaning into the Nick Mullen joke

the thing about having every political position of the last ten years completely vindicated is that the only internal struggle you’re left with is what color space marine to paint

A teenager who chooses to live their life in the suburbs as a young adult should be treated as a better case for carceral intervention than shoplifting. It is a sign of a profound antisocial personality with dangerous societal consequences.

A teenager failing to get their drivers license should be treated much like a toddler failing to gain language. It is a missed development step in their life with compounding consequences.

so just to play it all back: with no actual threat, on the rare day that bikes and pedestrians can use the roads, the NYPD is bravely foiling attacks by…sitting in their cars that they’ve parked in the way. But if you want to just hit someone with your car on like a Tuesday on Flatbush that’s cool?

Really weak response - hopefully this evolves during the rest of the week @nyc.streetsblog.org nyc.streetsblog.org/2026/08/04/m...

i feel like we could shortcut the “do Americans like lots of cheap shitty things or fewer high quality things” with one singular visit to the Museum of Ice Cream in SoHo

this is again the downside of the gambit Mamdani is attempting with Tisch and NYPD. Appeasement typically just leads the aggressor l to more and more muscular attempts at demonstrating control and influence. Which I mean, we’ll look at the pic

One lieutenant manning a chokepoint at a nearly entirely blocked intersection uptown told Streetsblog that the “blocker cars” were a direct order from Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch and were “obviously overkill.” buff.ly/Wh1OaNr

What is this tone? Like we need a name for it. Something to capture the piousness and self-importance of the judgement, but while also like, just being wrong and uninformed about the topic at hand

against my better angels this scenario plays out weekly for me at Central Park group tennis lessons. just annihilated weekly by a rotating cast of 57 year old women wearing caps that say AMAGANSETT
