Yesterday I briefly left Jene alone in a room with a bluetooth speaker and a mystery playlist. "Is that Stevie?" Yes, "Love's In Need of Love Today." Then Janelle Monae ("Float"), which got no response. Then--"NOOOOOOO." Ha ha, Ringo's "You're Sixteen (You're Beautiful and You're Mine)"

PSA: Prime now has the Hong Kong anticorruption prison thriller P STORM, the name that’s fun to say. (Movie has a bad rep though, and so does the other movies in this series, including G STORM and Z STORM)

P STORM!!!

Mixed feelings about today’s Brooklyn Vegan layoffs. Obviously sympathize with anyone who lost a job, but also thinking about how the site aggregated some of my tweets from concerts (without asking, of course) instead of paying for reporting on what happened at them.

ICE CREAM MAN! Eli Roth's post-THANKSGIVING victory lap prominently features AI generated art as well as some gnarly practical effects. Better than most at pandering to viewers' expectations. Degenerate vibes for days! Mixed feels! More @ebertvoices.bsky.social: www.rogerebert.com/reviews/ice-...

Ice Cream Man review: New gore flick serves satisfying if empty calories

It’s mostly pretty satisfying, even if there’s ultimately nothing surprising or essential here.

It's been reported that Grace Chang, Hong Kong's preeminent Mandarin screen diva of the 50s, passed away this afternoon, one day shy of her 93rd birthday. Watch Mambo Girl and The Wild, Wild Rose to see her at the height of her powers.

I saw that video of Jonah Hill threatening to jiujitsu anybody who called him the fat kid from SUPERBAD. On the one hand, I feel somewhat responsible since I wrote, in my THE SITTER review, that JH looked like Gene Wilder ate Zero Mostel. On the other hand, I feel like JH could use a new therapist.

Depressed by the semi-regular praise for superhero movies from actual superhero comics creators. Is their “discretionary“ compensation dependent on their hap hap happy praise? Just saw Frank Miller praising BRAND NEW DAY and it’s…less than convincing….

Jene’s grandmother isn't eating. She has had dementia for a while now and it seems likely that she won’t live for much longer. Jene and I have rushed upstate to see her and maybe say goodbye.

To quote Kyle Baker in my interview for The Comics Journal: "Can you eat a thank-you card? Is my kid gonna pay for college with the thank-you card? Will my doctor take that? 'You got a thousand dollars?' 'No, I was in the thank-you card!' I don't give a shit!" bleedingcool.com/comics/offic...
