saw this today from a new W user and this is exactly the kind of problem I'm talking about. the borders between microblog atproto apps are so blurred that no one really understands what it means to be "on W" vs "on Bluesky".

Thanks. Yes, that's what I was trying to say, but took too long to get there. Our politics community is strong, and I'd love for us to expand into new communities. Science and sports have already taken off. Birding, gardening, K-pop, we're open to all (except nazis and jerks).
this I actually totally agree with. this is a very heavily politics-focused app, and US politics specifically. I mean hell I participate in that plenty. but I do want to see a wider variety of topics, and more fun!

my latest theory on why bluesky has leaned so heavily left is: their own moderation tools. I think people on the left are far more likely to work together to support/protect each other, e.g. use things like blocklists and labelers

really, really good. I've been processing my youth group upbringing a lot, especially as I think about my son who will one day be a teenager. my youth group was my social core growing up, in a lot of good ways. I wonder how to cultivate that kind of community for him, without the dogma and shame

I've got a ways to go but I'm having a blast.
thinking about a game programming class I took in college where the professor offered bonus points to anyone who found out why boids are called boids in flocking algorithms (he didn't know himself). my friend was the first person to ever try just finding the algorithm creator's email and asking him.

believe it or not, as overwhelming as this might look, I actually think it's a fantastic introduction to complex sudokus. it introduces each rule gradually, and unveils new ways to think about them in a very well-paced way.
