One of the reasons I call myself a Xennial: my IG is filled w millenials talking about the “Italian charm bracelets” they had as KIDS coming back. I was a complete adult when I got mine. I still have it & it has stuff from my husband on it. Like. Damn.

One of the great joys of my adult life has been realizing that I can just pick up a new skill every so often, take a fun little class in it weekly for a year or two, and simply enjoy meeting people and getting medium proficient and not attempting to become professional in it at all!
Today I had to tell another person about my niece for the first time. I feel weird bc I’m able to talk about it without emotion as a self-protection thing. Just stating facts. Same w my illness & disability. People who haven’t dealt w these things don’t get that part.
First, you tell me to get a hobby; now it's an “appropriate hobby”.
I’m telling you this as a political scientist. The person who is electable is the one who is elected. This can and does change over time. Any and all speculation about “electability” is either puffery or anxiety and is often both.
One way to be safe is to never write an electability take
This is my first time hearing about Vote Mama but I love the idea. We need more young women in office—those who are in the thick of some of the most pressing issues facing people today. I want to see more of this: women like me, who struggle w the same challenges, taking on the big issues.
ENDORSEMENT!!!! I am incredibly honored to be endorsed by Vote Mama! Vote Mama supports women who parent their kids while running for office and those who are elected to serve the public and their children.
In other Michigan news, the state looks set to elect it's first transgender lawmaker. Joanna Whaley won her Democratic primary and will compete in November for a state house seat, beating a primary opponent who tried and failed to disqualify her for not running under her deadname
For my American friends: Lloyd Robertson was such a Canadian icon it’s hard to believe that there was a time before & after him. It’s like, we’ve got maple syrup, hockey, our own type of bacon, lots of trees, & Lloyd Robertson.
Lloyd Robertson has died. One of the absolute highlights of my professional life to date was during a live stream during pandemic where I got to say “Back to you, Lloyd” TO Lloyd. (picture from a book release around 2011)
#BREAKING: Former CTV News chief anchor Lloyd Robertson dies at 92

i'm starting to think people might be sick of democrats who view voters' will as a kind of cute larp unrelated to whatever they, the real protagonists of reality, do in the district
I am so triggered by RJK Jr's comment about ICU's being empty during #COVID. I re-read what I wrote after one of the surges. How do others forget. The trauma was--and is--real.
I'm An ICU Doctor. I’m Haunted By What I’ve Seen During The Recent COVID-19 Surge.
“I can’t stop thinking about the 40-something man who told me, ‘I can’t die like this. I just got engaged and have a 6-month-old baby.’ I encouraged him to be positive, but that didn’t stop him from d...

If you show up to Bluesky without following anyone, you'll be treated to a series of posts about art, music, and dogs. If you show up to X without following anyone, you'll be bombarded with right-wing conspiracies and white supremacist slop. It's weird which one is seen as a "political bubble"
I live in Ontario. Our universal health care in Canada is provincial. It is called OHIP: Ontario Health Insurance Program. It does not include prescription medication for all citizens. I qualify for coverage of an expensive medicine needed to function w AS. I cannot get it renewed. This is hell.
The older I get the more convinced I am that women’s hormones exist to protect them from men’s bullshit. Like hell yeah I’m gonna be scary AF when you’re testing me. The message you’re supposed to receive from that is, DON’T TEST ME, BRO.
Have any other perimenopausal ppl considered just wearing a diaper to bed? I don’t have bladder leaks I just can’t be getting up to pee every two hours all night long if I want to like, live.
So apparently buried under my depression is a righteous indignant rage & missing two doses of my SSRI thanks to the long weekend & ADHD means that I’m now spouting unvarnished truths about how fucked up things are & am ready to ride at dawn. Outlaw anti-depressants at your own peril, bro.
“Imagine if we’d taken more measures to control the pandemic: we’d have so much LESS freedom now!!” Dog I am in bed all day recovering from holding my 5 month old nephew for half an hour yesterday & then sitting up at the dinner table while people talked. I say this with all sincerity: GFY
Their entire worldview is based in the idea that violence & oppression are natural & inevitable. This is why cycle-breaking thru education & upbringing is so important. If we can imagine worse ways of being into existence, we can imagine better ways of being into existence, as well.
They're freaking out that what they're planning on doing to us will be done to them first. Every accusation an admission; every charge a confession.
They only imagine evil, bc evil is all they are capable of
Really incredible stuff here from these dudes. Meanwhile, DHS is actually building the camps and conducting work visits and traffic stops of US citizens for criticizing ICE agents on social media. www.wsj.com/politics/pol...
And meanwhile the actual current HHS secretary is openly promoting sending children to work camps in lieu of mental health treatment but sure, imaginary quarantine camps that never happened are the real threat
These guys are freaking out over their own imaginations again.
No, you’re always searching for an exemplar, a uniquely talented individual you can point to when other disabled people tell you they can’t. “So and so hand-cycled Kilimanjaro,” you crow. “What’s your excuse?” Human diversity IS cause for celebration. People doing what they love? Always.
It’s apparently “don’t share inspiration porn o’clock”. A disabled person doing something skillfully should not be cause for “shock”. Especially when that person has been doing whatever it is for 40+ years. Objectifying someone for nondisabled feel-good time is demoralizing.
Watching Designated Survivor for the first time in the year 2026 is such a trip.
The focus on the worker doesn't help. People who do the necessary work to keep society going should be honored and supported, but work should not be the measure of a person's worth.
There is soooo much ableism on the left it is ridiculous. I think it’s the hardest ism for them to unpack bc it challenges a lot of what we consider to be the morality of productivity in our society
Most womens' sports only exist because dudes can't handle getting beat by a girl
Sorry I’m going to be unusually full of rage this week bc I am grieving the two worst losses of a life in which I need two hands to count the number of friends who’ve died & in which I am forced to retire at age 40 after decades of institutional and personal abuse so just… mute me or whatever.
Once again, America doesn’t trust teachers to deliver the curriculum but they also want us to have guns & now inspect children’s genitals (after a years-long campaign to brand us as groomers). I don’t want to believe all conservatives are stupid but sometimes it’s just too easy.
An initiative on the ballot in Washington state in November would require all athletes seeking to play girl's sports from kindergarten to high school to undergo "genetic screening, a testosterone-levels test, or an examination of their reproductive anatomy" before they can play
