In this extract from "The Magician's Nephew", Polly is "in the right", and the text calls out Digory's cant and patriarchalism. Not quite feminist, but certainly rejecting any idea of inherent male authority.

Honestly, I HATE having to do self promotion. Sorry if I do too much of it. Tech Bros are drowning in cash by stealing from writers, musicians and artists, while those artists and writers can't afford food. Literally. Unless we self-promote, original, human-made art dies. That's how it is.

I hate ceding the framing of lockdowns. In the US, we mostly had a voluntary, largely unenforced set of civic recommendations, and some temporary closures of public places, like beaches. They’re scared of the *idea* of collective action, even if we didn’t execute it.

This is a very interesting line of research & as we part share a Bsky handle I’ll chuck my 2 pen’orth in. I think ‘bum fluff’ would likely = Leia & Chewbacca as 10 is a solid benchmark, but think the rising scale should feature ‘the Burt Reynolds’ somewhere to keep contributors on track. 👇 photo ref

A large hairy creature and possibly a Yeti both on rugs or sorts. Interesting to note the Yeti’s rug appears to be of human origin and it’s put me right off a bacon sandwich.

Men. Is your arse hairy? As in the actual buttocks not the crack. On a scale of 1 to 10, 1 being Leia and 10 Chewbacca, rate the hairiness of your arse. I'm trying to get a scientific journal article out of this. Pictures will not be required at this point, nor ever.

I never thought someone so strong could be struck down in one fail swoop and become so disabled. So I hope I am never so arrogant as you ever in life to dismiss the real frailty and suffering of those like my partner who have lost so much.

4. Support for children in disadvantaged communities, inc devices, connectivity, food, safe spaces to learn, catch-up teaching 5. Dedicated and planned mental health and social support if school closures become necessary 6. Build capacity to generate evidence more rapidly for the next time 11/12

2. Clean indoor air: helpful in a pandemic and good for health and learning at all times (and not just in schools but other buildings too) 3. Effective public health measures: testing, contact tracing, support for isolation, communication, etc 10/12

It just keeps on coming… Farage struck deal to return as leader long before Sunak called surprise 2024 vote, so his claim that he wasn’t involved in politics when he got his £5million “gift” is, of course, another grubby lie. The man is garbage. Grifting, lying, cheating garbage. (Sunday Times)

Farage struck deal to return as leader long before election
Reform chief had insisted he was not involved in politics until Sunak called surprise 2024 vote

Extracts;

Nigel Farage struck a secret deal to return as Reform UK leader months before the general election.
Farage negotiated the pact with Richard Tice, then the leader, in March and April 2024. George Cottrell, the convicted fraudster who had been secretly bankrolling Farage, supervised the discussions.
Under the terms of the deal, Reform agreed to repay or write off more than £1 million in outstand ing loans it had taken from Tice's company upon Farage becoming leader.
The deal was first presented by Farage and Cottrell to the party's treasurer in mid-May. Its existence undermines the Reform leader's claim that he had no intention until June 2024 of returning to politics. Farage has used this to defend his failure to declare
donations made to him in the year before he was elected as an MP, which triggered two parliamentary investigations.
Last night, Reform sources
acknowledged the existence of the deal but insisted it had been drafted for if, not when, Farage became leader. Asked why he would have signed such an agreement if he had no intention of returning as leader, they said it kept his options open. They said Farage had assumed he would focus his energies on campaigning for Donald Trump in that year's US presidential election.
Farage has claimed repeatedly that he did not need to declare a £5 million gift from the crypto--billionaire Christopher Harborne or in-kind benefits from Cottrell, as he was a media personality at the time. MPs must declare any benefit in any way connected to their
"political activities" received in the 12 months before their election.
He told the "anti-woke" Trigger-nometry podcast last month: "At that period of my life, from 2021 to the third of June 2024, I was a broadcaster… I was somebody that promoted financial market products, I was an influencer, I wasn't in politics."

I can imagine the phone calls being made already behind the scenes trying to bribe South American, African & Asian Nations to support Trumps, sorry l mean Kushners, no l meant Infantinos plan to privatise part of the World Cup & hand it to a member of the Trump family 🙄

Infantino is already trying to bribe nations with a pots of millions to agree to his Trump Family plan. If FIFA have that money to dangle, then he needs to give European countries their share regardless because they helped make the Football World Cup what it is as well.

A tax on banks would bring down energy bills - and bank CEOs aren’t happy. Banks had an 8% surcharge tax on their profits, but the Conservatives cut it to 3% in 2023. Even just restoring the surcharge to 8% would raise £9 billion over 4 years.
